These three A330 are registered as D-AXEL (c/n 305), D-ARNO (c/n 308) and D-ARND (c/n 312) and all three are former Swissair aircrafts (HB-IQL, HB-IQM and HB-IQN).
Actually they're stored at CGN and looking for a new operator.

bmi no longer fly MAN-IAD, I dont know whether they have suspended for the winter or stopped all together.
They are going to be flying LHR-Mumbai daily from April 22nd'06 and starting LHR-Jeddah x3 weekly from April 23rd'06. There are also rumours they are starting LHR-Doha daily in Mar'06. I haven't heard any rumours as to any new aircraft though. They state A330's will be used on all services.
Whilst on the subject of bmi - will they ever repaint the A321's and the older A320's in the new colours? It will soon be 5 years since they rebranded and they dont have a single A321 in the full new colours!

If bmi have discontinued the MAN-IAD permanently they have only got themselves to blame have downgraded the service since they required an A330 for their long haul Heathrow services. I know they have always desired the operate long haul out of LHR, however their MAN routes provided a valuable alternative to having to transfer in LHR.
Originally they had ordered 4 A330, but only took delivery off 3 aircraft. The fourth A330 went to Emirates. It is also interesting to note that in 2004 bmi operated the Star Alliance service between MAN and YYZ, only for it to return to AC in 2005.
What are bmi's long term plans for long haul - east or west from the UK, using Manchester or Heathrow. I guess that when BA move into T5 at LHR and the Star Alliance move into T1 (with Virgin) with T2 being closed and the Heathrow East Project commencing bmi and their Star Alliance partners will provide a consolidated set of route out of LHR.

Back to topic:
The three 330´s at CGN are not only ex-Swissair! They also flew for Lufthansa for a while. Then Bluewings buyed them to start long-distance-flights. They came to CGN to prepare for this operation, but only D-AXEL got full colours. But then BWG got financial problems, so that the planes are stored at CGN for a long time now.
Nobody knows what will happen....!

I think the end is near, dear Miguel :-)
D-ARND A.330-223 Kayo Ltd. arr 23 Jan, AMS, to be readied for TAP Portugal
D-ARNO A.330-223 Kayo Ltd. arr 24 Jan, AMS, to be readied for TAP Portugal
They arrived 8/7 days ago, a C-Check takes time, but you have your beauties :-)
Cheers, Cyrille.

thanks for the info.
Just for those of you who aren't aware of this story...
The 330's for TAP are perhaps the most waited aircrafts in the past years, as for quite a long time TAP hasn´t new models on the fleet.
Nevertheless...and if there is something a spotter learns with time is to be patient.
