Both the above Thai airlines were grounded due to poor safety records and one accident ( 120 lives lost ). Unfortunately it is Thailand where international laws are ignored, they blame pilots but it is clearly the owner is at fault, maximum fine can you believe this 1000baht ( $30 ) and or 6 months in prison, this has to be brought to World attention that Thailand is simply to be avoided at all costs.

1st of all, Orient Thai and One-Two-Go basically belong to the same group/holding company with 1 focused on Int'l mkt and the other on Domestic mkt. So, it'll be a bit surprising if they're not flying or being grounded together. I've watched how this airline expanded in the past and it's not a comforting sight. Nearly all of Orient Thai's NEWEST jets are 20-30yrs old ex-JAL jumbos flying ultra-cheap charters around Asia. Their pilots' professionalism are also questionable as a few of them once purposely flew within 0.5km of the Tokyo Tower just for the fun of it(Promptly prosectued by the Japanese gov't).

2nd, I disagree Thailand, as a country, <is simply to be avoided at all costs>. It's a great tourist destination with a top-notch hospitality industry that's affordable to the avg consumers(Downright cheap and a superior value when compared with what U will pay traveling in EU or U.S.). Writing-off Thailand is over-simplfying the issue.

The real problem is with the local airline industry and its regulatory regime(What else can U expect fm a gov't where military coup happens about once every decade?). But then again, who said U hv to fly a Thai airline to get to Thailand?

Dear FLX

You clearly haven't been to Thailand for a while, Thailand is getting expensive because everything is moved by oil. Inside Thailand you have no choice to get around, roads/Trains are poor so its down to the so called budget airlines and Thai airways ( a very expensive option ) Phuket Air was grounded and went, so have quite a few others, look at Airfleets for Thailand, standards are poor, insurance is almost non existent. Having lived there and seen the way they drive a car is it any wonder how their airlines operate, laws do not exist. Anyway it is clear that One 2 go and Orient Thai are destined for the same fate as the rest in Thailand, remember the Phuket crash and still the fight goes on, I would suggest you read the following website.

Yes, I haven't been to Thailand for a while. My last trip was in Feb07 and the one before in Oct06.

And yes, Thailand is no doubt getting expensive due to high oil prices. It is more costly to travel there than before. However, should foreign tourists avoid Thailand simply because it's more expensive than before? Is there any reasonable alternatives not affected by high oil prices? Do U really think Thailand is the only country surffering rapidly increasing oil prices today? Do U really think there has been little or no change in the U.S.+EU re travelling costs? Oil is a global commodity and affect nearly ALL importing countries(Especially those heavy users like U.S.+EU), not just Thailand. I would suggest you read the following website:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum#Consumption_statistics

Thailand as a travel destination is still a great value RELATIVE to traveling in the U.S. or EU. Look, it's very simple, let's say with a US$100 budget, compare and see what kind of hotel room+service U can get in New York or Paris vs Bangkok. See what I mean by VALUE? For a typical foreign tourist, all the key destinations like Phuket, KohSamui, Bangkok and ChaingMai hv direct int'l flights anyway. Just because it's super expensive(TG) or unsafe(OneTwoGo) to fly Thailand domestically doesn't mean tourists should not fly internationally into Thailand.
