I expect this to be erased in no time.

With no warning, all the photos in this website are erased. As the photographer contributing those photos over many years I feel betrayed. What do u think?

I never uploaded any pictures onto the site but I did enjoy looking at the photographs that so many of you guys out there took so much time and applied so much skill in taking.

It is also sad that when we now research an airline there is no photographs of a particular airliner you want to see and I think this will drive a good number of regular hitters of this site away to another one.

Keep the form going troops and lets have some real good debates.

I never used this site much for photos, more for information on particular aircraft/flightlogs, so its not a huge loss for me personally but I do appreciate that it is for a lot of people. I do like the links to the other sites to see photos of aircraft you might be researching as you say captain bill.

There was a warning that photos would be taken of for technical reasons. I do miss them and all the hard work the photographers took too share them with us. Its a shame really. Please bring them back

Yes I agree its a shame the photos have gone, as I was new to uploading I only had a handfull of shots on here but what I miss most is this site was so easy to find your way around. Other sites seem so complicated! We have to think about the ammount of time and web space a site like this requires and I assume there is only so much revenue can be generated by allowing advertising etc so if the cost of the server is not met by this it is no suprise that something has to go and as we know photos take up a lot of room even when the image is reduced in size to approx 1200 x 700 pixels.
Perhaps a way forward would have been to make all users who wanted to upload pics pay a small fee for membership, not as much as the premium rate but something, maybe though nobody would pay? Just a thought :-)

JohnMorris,
I second your suggestion that revenue should be generated from the photos, either by charging the uploader or selling the photos and split the money with the photographer.
I know some photographers have abandoned this website and moved on to other websites.

I also felt bad, and I was one of the photo screeners here (The screening Team was more than 20 guys/photographers, including the Webmaster).

I got a headache about this, only solved with a medication, i've screened the lasts photos here in April 29 and April 30.

My suggestion are these websites:

http://www.airplanephotozone.com/

and

http://photos.aero/

You are in APZ Spot Planes, and you can come to the Photos.aero (a British website), both are friendly and are easy sites to manage and to upload the pictures.

Same for you John Morris, John, add your pics to both these sites!

Some of the Photos.aero crew are into my messenger!

If any of you want, my messenger is ICQ: 386056851

Feel free to add me in, or just send me an email:

I cannot write my feelings about Airfleets.net to stop hosting photos, in this forum, but by email and/or messenger, no problem!

I always will be browsing Airfleets.net to look for the fleet database infos (Airfleets.net is the best on it), also here in the forum and for the Flightlog!

I just don't like Airliners.net, JetPhotos.net and Planepictures.net, simply because sometimes the photos are for a long time to be screened (queue), sometimes more than a whole week, and even can be rejected by stupid reasons.

Heres a wise thought, which i try to follow everyday:

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former

With kindly regards to Nicolas Giraud (Webmaster) you are a good friend, to all other screeners (was a pleasure to be here with you guys, i made some good friendships) and also to the friends i did herein the forum!

I will continue to write in this forum.

I had about 250 photos on the site and I am sad that the site can no longer afford to host photos. I am certainly sympathetic regarding costs and benefits.

That said, it raises the greater issue of what are the photos there for? I like seeing photos of every individual aircraft possible, other people only want  pretty pictures . I think there may be a middle ground possible. But, if someone wants me to pay for the privilege of uploading photos, I expect some latitude on how perfect the image has to be before it is permitted onto the site.

Jerome,

I will never pay for uploading pictures, this is an ABSURD, i never did it, never will do!

I second what you wrote, i like seeing photos of every individual aircraft possible.

I had exactly 734 photos on the site!

On these sites i mentioned, i am uploading again my photos Without to Pay NOTHING!. This is basically, always was, and i think always will be!!!

Werkur737,
Hi Werner, When I made the suggestion previously about paying to upload pics to a site it was only a suggestion, it didn't mean I agree with it. I agree with you that all the pics should be there for everyone to see and I enjoyed viewing them very much. Even though I had very few pics I uploaded it was a big thrill for me to get a shot accepted that was the first on the site of OY-MAA just after it was painted into the new red Sterling colours.
Anyway back to the point, A site like airfleets must cost a huge ammount to run and revenue must be generated from somewhere and does the advertising and premium membership earn enough? People like yourself and the other screeners give their time for nothing and no doubt the site is poorer without the photos you all have taken the time to accept on our behalf.
The thing that has me worried now is that we are all looking for new sites for our photos and how long will it be before perhaps one of them becomes so big that it too may stop hosting photos and we find ourselves back in the same place as we are now?
To sign off for now I thank you again for all your work and also for the mention of the new site Photo.aero where I have just registered as it looks good and is FREE to join.

I understand fully the reasons given for the closing of the photograph section of the site, but as a former screener, I felt let down by the lack of information given.
I and my fellow screeners gave many hours of our time freely to keep a good site functioning, but was only informed by an e-mail sent out to photographers that the photographs were being removed. I thought it lacked any respect to the people who helped keep the site functioning.

Still as they say you live and learn
