Firstly to Aer Lingus who announced that they will be taking delivery of a further 4 A320s from Airbus, under an agreement that they entered into in 2003, so I presume that means they are exercising options of some sort. They say these planes are to aid further expansion, which is great to see!!!
Secondly they announced in the last few days that they are to start a service from Dublin to Bourgas in Bulgaria, which is the first scheduled service to Bulgaria from Ireland.
(Both of the above are available as press releases on the aerlingus.com site, if you go to the 'About Us' section and then Aer Lingus media you will find them. I won't post a link because previously links have timed out after a few hours)
And now to Ryanair......
On Monday they proudly announced that their new website was up and running a day ahead of schedule.....
As it turns out it has been plagued with problems since it was launched with a lot of complaints centered around it being really slow, and sometimes screens freezing. Ryanair are blaming their 1p/1c sale, and the huge volume of bookings, but a lot of the stuff I have heard on Irish media relates to the fact that there seems to be still a good few glitches they are trying to iron out of the system!
Secondly Ryanair announced that they will open their 27th European base and their second base in Scotland in Edinburgh. They will be basing two aircraft up their, and operating 19 routes to and from Edinburgh.

I was always surprised that EDI wasn't a base up until now, so it didn't come as a surprise when they announced it, interesting to see will they do well enough to justify basing further aircraft there. presume the competition is fairly stiff up there??!

Trading Standards in the UK are going ballistic at Ryanair again as they are still not complying with the EU ruling that the full charges for the flight should be shown on the first page after you choose your flights.
I did a check on Saturday for a flight from PIK to ORK and return and initally it shows the costs as £0.01 each way and with tax a total cost of £20.00 BUT as you progress you have still further charges and fees which bring the cost to over £40.00.
How long will this mob flaunt the EU ruling and get away with it ?
Why are so many Governments in Europe afraid to take action against them ?

I don't know how long they will get away with flaunting the EU, eventually, like the recent French decision, they will get snared.
you see they are so belligerent and they have some many clauses and stipulations in every dealing you have with them, and they are masters of the loop hole, they seem to be able to evade any sort of repercussion.
