Looks very nice but i do still prefer the 747-400 in that livery. Shame i will never get a picture of it now although i can see Cathay Pacific maybe using 744F's on their Manchester route more often now as they must be thinking about retiring both theirs and Dragonairs older generation 747's

The 742F fleet is nearly @ the end of their economic life with CX. Given today's fuel prices+crew costs(Still require 3-persons crew), these avaition relics fm the 70s hv become so expensive to operate. It's also difficult to maintain a reliable cargo schedule with these aircrafts simply due to engine age.

captain bill:
On my 1st ever flight which is in the early 70s, they hv already gotten rid of the Nav/Radio position. And yes, I was wearing shorts too......
I also believe, unlike U & me, many others who comment on this thread here were not even born yet when the 2person cockpit widebody jet 1st came out. For them, flying has always been with only 2pilots staring @ a few computer screens(+joystick if it's an Airbus) and user-friendly GPS navigation in the cockpit. It's hard for them to imagine what kind of busy workplace a cockpit was with a 3/4person crew checking constantly on each of the thousands of gauges+dials surrounding them and nav by INS(Let alone compass/maps/radio beacons). 25-30yrs ago, the only screen on any plane was hung on the cabin wall showing movies....
My last visit of a 3person cockpit was 10 yrs ago on a 743 during a night flight with all gauges+dails lit-up mostly in orange colour and no computer screen anywhere. It was an extraordinary scene and infinitely more exciting to be in 1 than any modern 2person cockpit today.
