I think we just might see CO opening up some low density Trans Atlantic routes with this most fantastic Airliner so look out smaller European city airports you might just start to see them.

Assume flying fully loaded fm CO's EWR hub(It's closest base to Europe), a 739ER can reach all of UK+Ireland but will be exactly @ its range max(5925km) flying to the western-most part of Europe such as CDG and AMS with not much fuel reserve available for any bad weather over the N.Atlantic. FRA(6226km fm EWR) and nearly all of continental Europe are definitely out of bound.

I still don't see the 739ER as the total replacement solution to address all of CO's European needs currently served by their 752s.

Certainlly Co's B757 will contiune its life to Europe, it was a great deal to some some smaller airport (Ireland, Glasow...), with smaller amount of passengers. They decided to use B752 because it was the best type to have medium type of amount of passengers.
So lets say B767, it might be too big to have a B767 with 30% of loads to some small airports in Europe. B737 will be too small. Even the range cannot reach that high. B757 were in between.

Further thoughts....

Agree 739ER can potentially be a great replacement for 752 on CO's UK+Irish routes. But here are the problems with 739ER in CO's single-aisle/non-widebody/smaller mkt segment in Europe:

1. CO's UK+Ireland<->EWR mkt will benefit fm the 739ER but what about the rest of Europe which in my opinion is just as big or even bigger?
2. Less equipement scheduling flexibility(i.e. 739ER simply can't reach more than half of CO's Europe on a yr round basis reliably)
3. Significantly higher op costs for CO to maintain 2 fleets of diff types for the same Euro mkt segment. They loose the Econ-of-scale fm operating only a single type in a single mkt segment/geog region.

Is it just me or does anyone else notice that:
A) In the widebody category, the 2 manufacturers always hv something/some variants of a type to fill a particular size+range niche fm the smallest 767 to the biggest 380
B) In the narrowbody category, the 2 manufacturers currently hv something/some variants of a type to fill every size+range niche fm the smallest 318/736 to the biggest 321/739ER.
C) There seems to be a large & clear gap in range performance(Price too) between the biggest narrowbody and the smallest widebody. Since the end of 757 production and upto now, neither manufacturer seem to be in a hurry to work on any concrete development plan to fill this gap. If Embraer, Bombardier or the Chinese want to continue to go up-mkt to compete more directly with Boeing and Airbus, this gap will be the most logical place to focus on due to the total lack of competing products appearing in the mkt within the nex 10yrs.
