Not exactly running a poll of a BEST/WORST INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AWARD here but more about understanding the reasons behind your nominations. In other words, your favourite doesn't need to be the best in any category and your most hated one can in fact be a widely recognized premier global hub.
Pls try to focus only on airports with scheduled commercial flights.

My most hated airport is SYD
It cost AUD$5 to take a bus or train for transferring between international and domestic terminals. All airports I have been to are ALWAYS free transfer between terminals. Also very poor interline transfer from international arrival to domestic departure.
My favourite airport is HKG:
Fast, efficient, bright and lots of natural light, airy, clean, good signage, everything is logically placed, good ground transportation, orderly.

Spot planes:
I absolutely agreed with all points U hv raised re SYD. It seems only if U transit between QF Int'l(May be OneWorld too) and QF Domestic, then U can get free QF bus transfer between the terminals. This is still unacceptable for today's interconnectivity std. I remember once I was transferring between the 2 terminals(I think only 1-2km apart) within the airfield on an Ansett(8 yrs ago when they were still around) transit shuttle bus and it took 20-30 mins due to aircraft traffic. Unfortunately, almost all foreign airlines starting to serve AU always select SYD 1st. Perth and CNS hv the same problem but they're not major transit hubs so I don't expect good connectivity anyway. In contrast, MEL and BNE are far better choices for AU Domestic/Int'l connections. MEL hv them under 1 roof and BNE hv convenient automated rapid rail system(I think it's free) linking the 2 terminals in less than 5mins.....hmm....makes U wonder how come SYD, a much bigger commercial center, can't afford to implement such system......
HKG has been my home airport for a long time and my comments may be biased so I purposely exclude it as my favourites. The terminal is pretty nice, ruthlessly efficient and probably the only place in Hong Kong where there're always more space available than people need.
My favourites:
KIX(Osaka Kansai Int'l, Japan):
Similar to HKG in almost all customer-facing aspects in a slightly smaller package. Just love the terminal's architecture though - interior has the feel of a classic long, high-ceiling steam train terminal(Those exposed structural metal frames), exterior has the feel of a giant metalic seagull....a very organic shape.

USM(Koh Samui Int'l, Thailand):
A tiny Int'l airport on a tropical island. Terminal built in a series of stand-alone, nicely decorated cabanas/big huts and outfitted with modern facilities and ventilated by sea-breezes. Totally natural & romantic especially in the evenings.

Spot planes and FLX, if you want to know real rip off about SYD, try living one stop away. I live next to Mascot Station, and can walk to Domestic in about 15 minutes, but it costs $13.20 for me to catch the train to Domestic. I don't use it that often, but Taxis won't pick us up, and to catch QF401 at 0600, or when it's raining, there's no other choice
That said, my worst airport was Paris CDG
I arrived late, and couldn't find how to get to my connection
I couldn't find anyone who would help. The only person I found who would admit to being able to speak English was from British Midland, and when she saw I came in on QF and was leaving with AF, she made some comment about it not being her problem and walked off. I eventually found where I needed to be, but only after I promised to buy something from one of the stores
My best would be a toss up between Christchurch CHC and MEL
Both are just really nice places to be. They have great atmosphere, and for the most part, the airline staff, and the store staff, are friendly, even at unhealthy hours in the morning, when you catch a flight when normal people are thinking 'another couple of hours before the alarm goes off'
Customs and immigration in both places is great too, not too overbearing, and just friendly enough
Oh, and both have domestic and international in the same complex, so very easy to transfer either way, no having to pay some ridiculous amount to get from one to the other
Port Vila was fun too, but that's another story

My favorite is Philadelphia Int'l., good efficiency, fast, clean and everything is logically placed. Good transfers, and the airlines check-in points well positioned.
My most hated is Sao Paulo-Guarulhos Int'l in Brazil. When i go on vacations to visit relatives my flights (UA ORD-GRU or CO IAH-GRU) almost always late. Only two runways, not good enough for the traffic. Two terminals only and very congestioned, sometimes from other brazilians cities i cannot use the bridges to get the plane because doesn't have enough.
The check-in has lines too long and very slowly. Also doesn't have customs efficient and not good transportation to the city.
Guys i've never been is SYD, i imagined was very good airport. I have a DVD of Hong Kong, new airport from 1997, and by i can watched is very good, one of best of the world! AIRFLEETS.NET STAFF PHOTO SCREENER

well form e im gonna go for REC and BOH why. The local gov here in REC decided to build us a nice new terminal able to handle 5 million a year. Even if you go there at eak times it looks empty BOH cause its my local in the uk and everytime i fly from there its so easy. Check in coffee/beer, plane in unless thers a problem with the operator or the weathers bad theres never any delays

I really don't like Charles De Gaulle either.
It looks so dated, it is so complicated as well, if it your first time through it, such as taking bus 1 to terminal 2 and bus 2 to terminal one, as just one of many examples! The older satellite gates are a serious walk and are horrible, especially if there are any delays, as security is done at these gates, so once you are in you are IN!!

I'm not going to travel too far from home to give my vote for the best to BHD Belfast City (George Best) Airport. Right now it is small and new with everything well singed and easy to find. It is clean and the staff are really good and friendly and flight and cabin crews both like it.
The worst must be (and again on my door step) PIK Prestwick Scotland International. It is filthy and dated and although some money has been spent on it it is a disgrace to Scotland with so many people from all over Europe traveling into it with an equally low down in my estimation airline Rotten Air or as it is pronounced Ryan Air. The departure facilities are the pits and being a Ryan Air Airport there is always a danger of being crushed to death when the flight is announced by the mad hoardes of well seasoned Ryan customers rushing the gate to get window seats. PIK would at one time have been my choice as the best for as a small Trans Atlantic Airport run by BAA in the 60s, 70s, and 80s it was first class but it is now in a run down state and needs proper management and some money spent on it.

Werkur737:
If your destination is Sydney, SYD is not bad. If transiting domestic, prepare yourself for some frustrations.
BTW, the current HKG opened in Jun98, NOT 97. This error is quite common though as most people think the new airport opened in the same yr as the British handed-over Hong Kong to the PRC.

I also love AMS(Schipol). Transit through there flying KLM more than a dozen times 12-13 yrs ago. I had absolutely no idea how the place managed to be busy with lots of aircraft movement yet remained so spacious for pax inside the terminal. Although the place is huge, its layout & signage are so easy to navigate/understand that it's difficult to get lost inside. Amsterdam may be tiny relateive to top metropolis/glamorous destinations Frankfurt, Paris or London, however, AMS is definitely a sterling European example of how to design an efficient & comfortable modern mega hub that is probably, in my opinion, superior to FRT, CDG and especially LHR(Just imagine what if air travelers to/fm/via London hv something designed like AMS instead of LHR....).

As Dublin is my home airport I would have to disagree, sure its not the best but it certainly isn't the worst. its a fairly easy airport to get around, no huge walks or distances to travel, good facilities, I'm sure not ALL the staff are rude either!!!!

JFK is pretty bad. Once you arrive at the airport, I mean the land owned by the Port Authority, it usually takes naother hour a tleast to travel less than one mile because of the traffic. Once you get inside the terminals there are usually not enough seats. After departing from the gate you can also expect to wait around 1-2 hours to take off.

Just returned from Australia. Flew CX YVR-HKG-MEL (yes, to avoid SYD) and DJ MEL-ADL.
MEL is very nice, T1, T2 and T3 are under one roof. They still let greeters in the domestic terminal all the way to the gates. Bottled water is more expensive in MEL (AUD$2.60) than on board DJ (AUD$2.00), same brand and same size!
ADL has a brand new terminal. I like the way they use glass sliding doors to partition out international gates when needed and open up the doors and they become domestic gates. Neat idea. Clean, new, airy, no long distance to walk. Nice. Don't like 2 layers of doors at the washrooms/toilet/WC, should have no door like most new terminals. Besides, the door is quite small and difficult to get in and out with luggages.

Spot planes:
CX has daily HKG-ADL flight and if U had taken it, U probably could hv saved $ on the separate DJ ticket+transit time @ MEL.
MEL has excellent layout and if I remember correctly, plenty of room for expansion due to its location away fm most residential/commercial development. Little surprise 2 nationwide LCCs(Tiger and Jetstar) are based there. The only minor problem is that it's got only 1 rwy capable for widebodies.
I hv seen photos of the new terminal @ ADL. Quite nice. Glass sliding door partitions for easy swapping of a gate between Int'l and Dom use are not new. In China, almost all Int'l airports @ 2nd-tier cities(Meaning not PEK, PVG, CAN and SZX) where 10% or less flights are Int'l, hv been using the same approach for yrs. All these terminals are spanking new(Built within the past 10 yrs) and swanky looking too.
