can anyone comment on the experience of travelling in a embraer145, particularily the manchester to aberdeen service. my job may take me there 3 times a month and was interested to know what a smaller plane experience is like ? Thanks

It's a fast and convenient flight, saves you hours over the alternatives. The Embraers are fine to fly on. Just like flying in a corporate jet but with more seats! I like the BD 145 fleet, they are fast and comfortable and you really are not in the air long enough to benefit from a larger aircraft.

I have flown on them regularly on connecting flights in the USA. They take a small amount of getting used to on takeoff / landing as they tend to get thrown around like a turboprop (ATP, ATR, F50 etc) would, but they are doing jet speeds, thus increasing the sense of bring thrown around. I think I was unlucky that we got caught by a heavy cross wind on my first take off in this type! Apart from that they are great, they get you there quicker than a prop. On the other hand, from a carbon footprint point of view, they are a disaster!

RJs like EMB145 are great if your origins/destinations are not busy hubs. Speedy boarding/disembarking. Space per seat better than the typical A32X or 737NG. However, if flying between congested hubs heavily populated by RJs like ORD<->JFK/LGA, prepare to spend a loooooong time in the cabin on the ground due to major congestions especially during peak hrs. Then again, other larger airliners suffer the same problem in those super-hubs. 'Fokker50' might be able to attest to that kinda experience in the U.S. I read fm Boeing that FAA estimated about 75% of all traffics in JFK/LGA are flown by RJs or something smaller.

Fokker50: Agreed. A fully loaded big bus always return better mileage/carbon footprint per pax than an ultra-efficient Toyota Prius(Or any ultra-efficient PZEV<Partial Zero Emission Vehicle>).
