Hi!
Does someone know what is actually going on at SAS? Are they still searching for the problem that caused the crash-landings @ Vilnius and Aalborg?
Looking forward to your answers!

All Q400's with many hours (don't know the exact number, maybe 20000) have been grounded until the cause is found,

Quite strange what is going on with SAS Q400s, the aircraft is very good. I also wanna know why they grounded all Q400.
Q400 is one of the best Bombardier planes and on its category, i think better than the ATR72-212.

Bombardier recommended that all Dash 8-400 planes worldwide with more than 10,000 landing gear cycles be grounded until inspections are carried out

It as at the moment 22 of the Q-400á that are grounded from only SAS. All other companies have been permitted to fly again. (I saw a Widerøe Q-400 this morning). The reason that SAS keeps the planes grounded is that the Swedish goverment has put a futher investigation on to who is to be called responsable for the 2 accidents. The reason has been found, and it was a rusty bolt in the right landinggear. The two accidented planes are: Aalborg; LN-RDK, Vilnius; LN-RDS.
Best Wishes from CPH
Hans.

Is it yet know whether they are written off?

No, not as far as I know. In all it seems as SAS/Bombardier are holding back exact details. But I am pretty sure that LN-RDK and RDS can be regarded as a total loss. What do you think?

It depends i havent seen any proper photos so i can judge. I would need to see a close up photo. Although from what i hear the wings are damaged on both so they are more than likely insurance right offs

The air directive was to inspect and repair those with 10,000 cycles or more. So globally only a small number was affected. Most have been returned to service after one or two days.

The news say that the right propeller of one of the Dashs broke into the hull. I am not a technician but I cannot imagine this plane is worth being repaired - if the news are right :-)...
I found the following extensive video (the video is somewhere in the middle of the page among a german comment)

Just found this:

An inspection of SAS's remaining Dash 8-400 aircraft has shown that 23 out of the 25 planes had corrosion damage on their landing gear.
SAS was not immediately available to comment.
On Thursday, the Danish Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) said the flight ban on SAS's Dash 8-400 aircraft would be lifted gradually as each plane is inspected.
SAS has said grounding the planes costs up to 15 million Swedish crowns ($2.28 million) per day.

Another incident today with an LH Dash 8-400. This time it was a nose gear failure and once again the aircraft sounds like it is a right off. Glad i went to Germany when i did since i only missed one of there Dash 8-400's. Having said that i bet it was that one that had the incident, it would be just my luck.
