Hi guys,
I'm wondering what kind of equipment do most photographers here use. I have a Canon 20D with a 70-200 F4.0 lens. I'm thinking about getting a 300 F4.0 or a 1.4 teleconverter for my current lens as I don't have enough reach at the moment.
Cheers
Rob

Well, the 75-300mm is gone an I now have a 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM and a 2.0x Extender. I tried to stack the 2.0x and a 1.4x but the AF didn't work well.
TIP: Before you get the 1.4x Extender, try it. A 1.4 Extender on a 100-400mm L IS USM resulted in no AF. If you want more reach you might want to consider a 100-400 and not the 300 + TC. You'll have 20mm less but a more flexible sollution.

Here in Holland the 100-400mm would be €75 cheaper then the 300mm + 1.4TC combo.
See what prices at your location are. Could be cheaper the other way round but shouldn't be far appart.
Good luck,

I am the same as Miguel, with the trustey 300D with a Sigma 50-500mm bolted on the front with no IS you have to have a steady hand but I love the lens , Miguel Manchester is the place, pack your 300D and come for a few days holiday you wouldn't regret it....

Hi Dragonman. Thanks for the tip. Surely I'll be going to Manchester, because there is something there I want to see, and that is G-BOAC, but first I have to see G-BOAD, which I hope to upload one photo of it during 2005... .

Dragonman: Tried MAN this year but sucked. Bad light and no real interesting shots from viewing area or airport hotel. Also UK weather isn't the best in the world.
Might be back there next year and we (MaartenW and I) are looking for a guide to the other side of the airport. Interested? :D

Hi XiPHiAS,
No problem you would be very welcome, please when you wish to come e-mail and I would be pleased to guide you and your friends to all the favoured spots. Although the viewing park is good, photography is not great until late in the day because of the sun, if we get any........
As to the weather.......well Manchester is the City of rain, unfortunately.
Regards
Kevin Murphy (Dragonman)

Hi
still use my 300D with 28-300mm lens on it, which works fine for me. Although, I'm planning to get a new lens 70-200IS or 100-400IS in the near future.
My next destinations to visit for some photography are for sure MAN/CPH/ARN and again BHX/DUB.
Rgds

Hi Eric.
If you can choose the 100-400 L IS.
I don't know the 70-200 (though people say wonders on those lenses), but the 100-400 is very reliable and the results are really very good. The 400mm allows you to get completely different backdrops.
I finally had the chance to test my new lenses with rain and the quality is excellent.

KiwiRob; no it's an Tamron lens 28-300XrDi. Works fine by the way, still very happy with this lens.
Cláudio, the 100-400L IS is really on my wishes-list!! X-mas time is coming ;) but I doubt if it's below the x-mas tree :D AIRFLEETS.NET STAFF PHOTO SCREENER

70-200 f/2.8 IS is a realy great lens. Since I don't only shoot aviation is good for the rest also. When at close range I use the 70-200, or when need of extra zoom I slide the 2.0 extender in there to get 140-400mm. I've found the 100-400 a but unsharp above the 350mm (nothing some USM can't take care of) where as the 70-200@400mm doesn't. I choose the 70-200 + 2.0 for it's flexibility. If you only use you camera for plane spotting the 100-400 will do jsut fine.

Hey Eric...did you wrote the letter to Santa asking for the 100-400 ?
My next buy (I hope) is the Sigma 12-24mm. Anyone got that one and wants to share some thoughts ?
Oh...and by the way. Happy holidays to all those celebrating X-mas, and a happy 2006 with plenty of peace for everybody and...(why not...let's ask it..)..lots of good photos.
