During the reports of the TAM disaster on CNN the reporter really made a hash of he correct pronunciation. He said Porto Alegra instead of Porto Allegre and Congonhouse instead of Congonhas. I thought to myself if that was in the US or an English speaking country and a Brazilian said I was sitting on the Bitch when. Instead of Beach people would say something. So I am.

It's a shame that journalists of CNN said the names wrong. For sure in Brazil the journalists doesn't say the names wrong when the accidents on World Trade center happenned.
I'm brazilian that lives in US and when American journalists talk about anything of Brazil makes mistakes.

Hi Werker.
Yes your absolutely right. I work as an English teacher here in REC. And, all of my students strive really hard to get a god pronunciation. I just think that large international media companies could get it right.

Getting back to  THE AVIATION THING  how often do they get aircraft types wrong and talk so much garbage about a subject they know nothing about - aircraft and the airline world.

I get sick of them when reporting about something in Scotland they talk about Scotland England when we are not in any way shape or form part of or owned by England a country by the way all you English folks I truely love and admire.

they also talk about EDINBORO or EEDINBURG insted of EDINBURGH but there you go God bless America.

p.s. we do love y'all. Have a nice day.

Missing you already !!!!!!

Yes Captain Bill. Yesterday here in REC there was a problem with a TAM A320 where the one of the engines had a problem. The pax's refused to fly and are going to take TAM to court on what grounds I don't know as the plane in question was on the ground. Now the GLOBO tv channel here showed an A319 instead of an A320. As for the pronunciation of Edinburgh here in Brazil in the Portuguese language its pronouncen Edinburgo or something similar. But thats here But I can asure you that my students can pronounce it correctly.

Agreed with speedbird9468 and Captain Bill 100%. At a recent business meeting somewhere in the Mid-west U.S., a client @ senior management level there asked my Asian friend which part of China is Tokyo located in.....well, I guess this guy at least knows Tokyo is a city rather than a country.

If top-tier American news media hv trouble with pronunciation of Latin-based languages, I guess they'll be absolutely hopeless with most major Asian languages which are not even based on Alphabets.

Let's hope nex time when Embraer, the pride of Brazil, is on CNN Headline, the presenter won't make a fool of him/herself by saying: Today, Embarrass has beaten both Airbus and Boeing in the sales war of the single-isle jetliner market....

reminds me of the Kenyan 738 incident that was on the news, the reporter was behind a Kenyan 777 saying it was an aircraft like this that crashed, but i mean surelly you can tell from the sizes, 737 compared to a 777 :P
