Ok, Now the 757-200 have stoped production, what will replace them when all 757-200's are gone?

boeing have released details on the 737-900ER, but would a 739er be able to compete with the 757 market?

The topelov TU204 series could compete with the 757 market? but most airlines never use russian airliners?!

So... 10/15 years from now when most 757's are retired... what will be taking there place?

exactly as VIE said, the 787 is intended to replace the 757 and 767 when the time comes, having both range and seating to accommodate the self loading freight.

In the meantime Airbus are laughing all the way to the bank by offering the A321.

im a twerp yeh of course the 787 lol. THe A321 can not compete with the 757 as the a321's range is a lot lower.

Depends what the airlines what range or size. I would guess Airbus would offer an A330 as a replacement to the B767 for long haul, and the A321 for the B757 on routes like European services.

(Although BA did use B777 on LHR-CDG for a while)

The competitor of the B787 series is the Airbus A350. Its the new derivative from the A330. The program is at his begining and Boeing have started his B787 program before Airbus. The B787 will be a new concept from the technology side : no beed air from the engines, electrical brakes, HUB as standard equipment, new electrical generation system, compites fuselage, etc...

Lean u mean HUD, The 787 is a complety new plane, as the a350 is a newer version of the a330. Lets not forget that some airliners are fitting their 757's with winglets, like continetal, so that it lowers the feul burn and can carry more freight.

What i ment was the 757! the 787 is bigger than the 757

the 787 competes more in the 767/a330 range

the 787 has technology that is in use already with A320's, electrical braking is nothing new.

For many years now Boeing has been playing catch-up to Airbus. The B767 did not have the cabin width of the A300, and then, in my opinion, Boeing over shot the mark with the B777. Whilst the B777 is a good airliner for the operator, it has not proven popular for the passenger, with the middle seat in business class and the 9 to 10 seats across in economy. Boeing with the 787 Dreamliner have finally copied exactly the highly successful and customer preferred basic seating of the Airbus widebodied fleet, e.g. First 2-1-2., Business 2-2-2, and Economy 2-4-2. When built, the B787 will have the highest percentage of composites of any airliner, in fact even a greater use of composites than the A350. Theoretically this will have a greater dent into A330/A340 sales than the B777 family, and looking at advance orders this appears to be true thus far. However, looking at Airbus's proven history and being a firm leader in innovations, the 2 year difference between the launch of the B787 and A350, could well mean the A350 is more fuel efficient and economically viable when launch than the B787. In addition, as we have seen, even with the announcement of the B787 and the A350, sales for the A330 have continued, whereas sales for the B767 have slumped. I believe both the B787 and A350 will be commercial successes for their manufacturers, but these new family's will spell the end of production for B767/B777 and A330/340 of today.

When it comes to the B757 and even B737NG, Boeing never made Cargo Friendly i.e. the ability to handle Containerised cargo. This cost them dearly with several of the main carriers, including some of their most loyal customers, e.g. British Airways in Europe and United in the U.S.A. to mention but two long standing Boeing customers, who the best analyst predicted would never buy airbus.

With the B757 you have a range of upto 7,222 km's compared to the A321 range of upto 5,600 km. If you look at how sales simply declined over the years, one has to seriously consider is there still a viable demand for a replacement to the B757 ? Within the 737NG family, as mentioned already above, the -900 series copies the carrying capacity of the 757 and has a range of 5,095 km. If there is a viable demand for this specific aircraft to match the range of the 757, then I am sure Boeing would produce an extended range version. Likewise if their was a demand for the A321 to fly further, then Airbus would have produced. Where you are seeing 757's used beyond the 5,000 km range I believe is rare. Even with the TU 204, which has several engine options, including western, we have not seen as many orders placed as initially expected, and again with the TU 204 as with the B757, the belly is not containerised cargo compatible, which gives the A321 a clear advantage.

One thing for sure though, we will see B757's flying for many mores years to come. Even as their passenger carrying days come to an end, there will be a high demand for conversion into freighters. I always remember the first time I saw a B757 coming in on finals how it reminded me of a bird of prey ! For sure a unique shape and a unique aircraft.

all the best, Trevor
