Virgin Atlantic makes maiden flight to Nairobi

Virgin Atlantic, made its maiden landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The Airbus A340-300, with 306 passengers, touched down at JKIA on Saturday with Sir Richard Branson, the founder and chairman, on board. the Vice-President, Mr. Moody Awori, welcomed Branson.
This is the first of the airline's daily flights to the region, which will bring a quarter more visitors to the region in the first year of operation, with an estimated economic benefit of $100m over the coming 12 months to the economy.
Nigeria is an important exporter and that Virgin Atlantic aims to carry tens of millions of dollars worth of agricultural exports each year.
Virgin Atlantic is now serving Nairobi, the airline's fourth African destination which is not only important city in its own right, but also the gate way for the whole of East Africa and the Indian Ocean. Branson commended the Government and the Kenya Tourist Board for making sure the airline's dream of coming to kenya is a reality.
The service would not only boost the country's links with the UK, which are already strong, but also contribute to an expanding economy through greater visitor numbers.
Virgin Atlantic will offer world-renowned service to passengers on the London-Nairobi route.
The flights will link up in London with Virgin Atlantic's extensive services to 10 key US gateways, particularly New York and Washington.
Branson's partnership with Safaricom will create a vital new elephant corridor, north of Mount Kenya, which will provide a lifeline to local communities and the dwindling elephant population in the region.
