New Aircraft?
Apparently Oasis has scheduled a positioning flight OHK100 ZGGG/CAN-VHHH/HKG on May 20th. The aircraft has 398 seats (opposed to the 361/363 seat ex-SIA aircraft). I suspect this is the delivery flight for B-LFC (ex-JA404A). I cannot confirm this at this moment. Nor have I any idea why it is coming from ZGGG/CAN.
Sydney/Melbourne?
Apparently they have scheduled OHK600/601 VHHH/HKG-YSSY/SYD-YMML/MEL-YSSY/SYD-VHHH/HKG from August 21. These flights will run daily departing Hong Kong 1855L, arriving back into Hong Kong at 2300L. They will connect on to the EGKK/LGW flights. This marks their entrance to the Kangaroo route.
Note the similar timings to the Virgin flights.
No information/promo in the wild yet regarding these flights.
Aircraft Rotation
Looks like Oasis will be doing VHHH/HKG-EGKK/LGW-VHHH/HKG-CYVR/YVR-VHHH/HKG with the current 3 aircraft. Ground time at Gatwick will allow some maintenance to be performed. But it's very very tight if anything goes wrong.
It will then switch to VHHH/HKG-EGKK/LGW-VHHH/HKG-YSSY/SYD-YMML/MEL-YSSY/SYD-VHHH/HKG with the 3 aircraft. Vancouver will require another 2 with time on ground for maintenance. Where will they source these by August 21?
They will have the flexibility to switch aircraft from the Australian route to the Canadian route with the similar timings. This allows aircraft to rotate out of sequence for maintenance.
Oakland?
Don't bother asking. No new info.
Old News
6 weeklies to Vancouver to start July 1.
B-LFD (ex-JA405A) to arrive end August 2007.
B-LFE (ex-JA403A) to arrive early 2008.
Regards,
GJ

Oasis should have 4 aircrafts by August 2007. I cannot see how they can use 4 aircrafts to cover SYD and MEL in addition to LGW and YVR. May be they will reduce HKG-YVR frequency during slow season and fly to SYD/MEL instead.

Oasis could increases its fleet with more SIA aircraft. There are some SIA 747-400 up to sold and Oasis have a strong potential on a route to YVR, that could be extended to EWR.
Oasis can be in near future a strong competitor to Cathay Pacific, and the only way to win is improving the routes. The route from HKG to SYD and MEL are the best in terms of money, so is better daily routes to Australia than YVR route. I think first Australia and then to YVR and EWR. I suspect the positioning flight OHK100 on 20May CAN->HKG was a delivery flight after conversion work completed in CAN such as re-paint, cabin re-decor, etc. fm the original NH stuff.
Surprised to learn about OHK's HKG-SYD/MEL route as it has never been mentioned by anyone anywhere including OHK's own website re growth plan(The Australia landmass does not even appear in their existing world map!). However, the specifics U provided including a launch date of 21Aug make it seems highly plausible.
When OHK 1st announced their YVR plan, I did speculated where will be their nex target. I briefly thought about SYD as it makes the most sense in terms of $+their Ops capability+fit with their long-haul strategy(Or should I say, CX-hunting strategy...). However, nothing was mentioned re Australia, not even the regulatory rights.
Having said that, we've seen this kind of surprise fm OHK before. Remember when OHK stated that OAK was their nex target late last yr after LGW? They now ended-up with YVR instead. Given the time lapse between official announcement and actual 1st flight of HKG-YVR is 2 mths, we may expect the same pattern re HKG-SYD/MEL: Official annoucement around late Jun with bits & pieces of info arriving probably early nex mth.
I'm starting to wonder OHK's originally annouced expansion plan for a bunch of non-CX cities(e.g. OAK, ORD, Berlin, Milan, etc.) is only a smoke screen to fool CX...... May be it's working as I still don't see any sign of CX actively engaging OHK. I checked CX's summer fare HKG-YVR and is still sky-high when compared with OHK.

I doubted OHK can start HKG-SYD/MEL in Aug 07 as it is peak season for HKG-LGW and HKG-YVR.
OHK has been promoting heavily in YVR for their new service with daily newspaper ads, free tickets give aways, etc. Reservation has been very strong for the summer (Jun-Aug).
OHK's basic rules to select destinations are (1) long haul 10 hours one way or longer, (2) cities with large Hong Kong immigrants, such as YVR, LGW, and OAK (San Francisco/US West coast), (3) need near daily flights to reduce crew down time.
Extending HKG-YVR to EWR/JFK is also not likely as this will need a standby crew at YVR or NYC. Also winter weather at US east coast can screw up the system. Look what happened to JetBlue.
