Oasis Hong Kong Airlines has today finalised an agreement with ANA (All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd.) to purchase three additional Boeing 747-400s, as part of its planned fleet expansion in preparation for the launch of the airline’s new Vancouver route in the second half of 2007. This will bring the Oasis fleet to five aircraft.
Steve Miller, Chief Executive Officer of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, said, “The purchase of three Boeing 747-400s marked another significant milestone in our history, getting closer to our goal of acquiring up to five aircraft a year and eventually expanding our fleet to 25 aircraft by 2010. ANA is an airline known for its excellence, efficiency, reliability and dedication to safety, the very qualities that are at the core of Oasis. These aircraft have been maintained in top quality condition. We look forward to the addition of these aircraft which will allow us to bring our passengers to many exciting destinations around the world in future. The expanded fleet will also greatly enhance our cargo capacity and therefore our airfreight income. Our momentum is strong and we’re on track to achieving our business goals.”
Peter Shannon, Director of Engineering of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, added, “The three aircraft are amongst the youngest Boeing 747-400s in the world. They were all previously owned and maintained by ANA and are in perfect condition. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from April 2007 and run through to the first quarter of 2008. I am sure passengers will enjoy their flights on these reliable and comfortable aircraft.”
Oasis is also pleased to announce commencement of scheduled air services to Vancouver, subject to government approval on 28 June 2007. Vancouver is a popular destination to Hong Kong people, enjoying high demand year round due to a high population of Hong Kong immigrants. And to prepare for the launch of Oasis’ second destination, the airline is also hiring 200 more cockpit and cabin crew members, soon bringing its crew size to over 400.
Ken Chad, Commercial Director of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, commented, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to fly to Vancouver. This is a very strong point to point market, one of the strongest out of Hong kong. It’s a market where there is substantially less reliance on feeder traffic. Consequently, it is currently our preferred next destination.”

Likewise, how about seeing them at Manchester Ringway as Cathay still haven't started the service that was supposed to start last year. I hear rumours that other airlines are on the cards and hopefully Oasis is one of them. Others included:
Air India, Kenya Airways and United Airlines

Oasis got the Hong Kong government approval and waiting for Canadian government approval. They started selling tickets in Hong Kong via selected travel agents to residents of Hong Kong only.
First flight is June 28, 2007.

Re Message of Werkur737:
JFK/EWR-HKG is out of range for their 744s(At full load). The type seems to be the 'Chosen Instrument' within Oasis' fleet development plan at least in the near term.
Re Message of SJR:
Will be great if Oasis starts MAN-HKG as few Asian airlines currently serve this airport. However, I wonder the prospect of this because of the limited mkt size of MAN-HKG and the relatively large capacity of a 744. Frankly, I don't think this will happen in the near term unless Oasis 1) Deviate from their low cost point-to-point strategy and/or 2) Diversify their fleet to include a type that is smaller than 744 but has similar range. Remember when CX flew MAN-HKG with their 744 in the early 90s? They've to stopover AMS to pick-up more pax in order to maintain load factor. Of course, if CX flies MAN-HKG again today, they can do it non-stop with a good load factor by simply deploying a smaller 343 or 330.
Re Message of Spot planes:
Based on earlier media reports/interviews + development plan as stated earlier on Oasis' website, OAK-HKG will most likely be the next North American route for Oasis after YVR. It's also well within range of their 744 fleet.

funny you should say that because CX was supposed to start 3x weekly via Moscow last year. Would have worked well for them as both of these are places not reachable from Manchester. Do you also remember why CX decided to pull out of Manchester. It was because they were limited to a number of flights to the U.K. on a daily basis and LHR had more capacity need. They have always wanted to re-instate the route but have never had enough flights to do it. The route could be kept alive solely with its cargo need. CX and KA already serve the route with cargo flights and there is significant numbers as BA, LH and KL have a lot of PAX transfer to Hong Kong and i think SQ and EK do as well

A travel agent friend of mine tole me Oasis already hired the former Air Canada Sales Manager (forced retirement from AC) in Vancouver and doing the sales round. Initial price would be CAD$299 ++++ one way. Including all taxes and fees (total around CAD$200), the round trip fare is about half of CX and AC for the high season (mid July to mid September).
Oasis choses a good time to start this service. At least they can make some profit from this high season to weather the low season of mid-September to late November.
I think Oasis will drain more traffic from CX than from AC. I hope Harmony Airways can start up again with smaller planes to do domestic connection for Oasis.

I don't see near future to Harmony Airlines on re-start flights.
They only have a chance with very small planes like CRJ200ER, and doing some flights to US without same cities of Westjet and ACA and Jazz. Mostly could be from Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg, but not from Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver where are very competition. Thats my mind. AIRFLEETS.NET STAFF PHOTO SCREENER

The best hope for Harmony to be honest would be to merge with Zoom Airlines and that way Zoom can start some new services with 767 and 757 equipment as i believe that some routes that Zoom operate don't require a 763 all year.

It just seems to me like Oasis HK is born to piss-off CX. 1st London, now Vancouver and soon San Francisco/Oakland....all are major 'trunk' routes fm HK(If not top routes)for CX where it controls huge capacity+traffic in the mkt. In HKG-LHR/YVR in particular, I believe CX currently has the most frequent services and often charges a slight 'premium' over its foreign competitors' fares. Now comes along Oasis HK spoiling these neat money makers for CX. It's gonna be a bloodbath no doubt and the biggest winner at the end will be the passengers(Pardon the cliche).
Just imagine if the likes of Oasis HK, Air Asia X, Jetstar Int'l turn out not only survive but hold their own against the established carriers in Asia-Pcf, we may be witnessing the birth of a new breed of successful LCCs which are effectively the long-haul 'cousins' of Southwest /JetBlue /WestJet!
Airline deregulation & liberalization in Asia is such a wonderful thing.

This is good for us consumers. CX is such a SOB in YVR and AC's dickheads in Montreal (AC's HQ) just ignore the Asian market.
OT: I never liked CX and avoided CX as much as possible. I had too many bad experience with CX.
Funny, my dad who lives in Australia and travel to HKG a lot also does not like CX. He shared the same feeling and bad experience with CX.

Re: Spot planes 30Apr
I neither dislike nor like CX. Considering the overall service level in their entire global network relative to competitors in each route, I think they're average. In some mkts such as MNL,CEB,DPS,CGK,BOM,DEL,etc., CX is superior not because of its own merit but because competitors are simply awful by world stds. However, CX is no where near the cutting-edge as they're portraited by the media, the awards(e.g. XXX Airline of the Yr) and some 'captive' customers(Marco Polo Platinum/Gold). Lately, I observed 2 things re CX's 744 fleet that support this argument:
1. Last Aug, I flew HKG-YVR-JFK in C-class on a CX 744. 2 mins after I sat down before push-back, I was 'fortunate' enough to find water dripping slowly on my arm fm the cabin ceiling vent system right above my seat. In an effort to try to stop the dripping, the CA tried to stick a bunch of towels into the ceiling panel gaps hoping to rid the problem. It didn't work well and I hv to endure this problem the whole flight as C-class was full. Another unhappy CX C-class customer is created due to poor fleet maintenace.
2. Like many in the general travel public, when I hear LCCs flying used aircrafts, I automatically assumed their fleet will be inferior to the established carriers which bought most of their fleet fresh fm the factory. Reasonable perception? Wrong! I now realized that the youngest 744(Pax Version) in the CX fleet was delivered fm Boeing in 94. In contrast, the recently acquired 744s by Oasis fm NH are built in 99 or later and chances are, they've been well looked-after given the typically high-std NH maintaneance. What does all these mean? When Oasis starts flying HKG-YVR, they'll be flying much younger 744s than CX's on this route(CX's A340s on this route are not exactly young either). Oasis' advantage may disappear only after late 07 when CX starts to receive new 77Ws in substantial numbers. For the time being, if I'm flying C-class again on 744, I'll avoid CX to prevent any 'aquatic' experience on this long-haul flight.

Speaking of All Nippon when are they going to deliver that 742F to Jett8 Cargo so they can start services. The picture on the website shows a 747 in there colours that is registered as 9V-JEA but i haven't heard that All Nippon has delivered this aircraft to Jett8. It seems that All Nippon is ditching a lot of 747's recently though. I hope they will ditch the only one i have seen soon as seeing it nine times on the trot at LHR is a joke

Yes, I totally agree with you Oasis is born to piss off CX.
OasisHongKong owner was in Vancouver last week to promote their new service and gave away 1000 free tickets at various events.
CX sales is saying they have different kind of customer base just o save face. Regardless, Oasis is draining CX customers for sure. CX is right to certain degree, but the other customer base is moving over to Oasis, not staying with CX. CX has slashed fare this summer and is actually cheaper than last year's summer (peak) fare.

Here are my predictions on the HKG-YVR route after Oasis' entry:
- CX will eventually reduce their frequency at least slightly particularly during non-peak.
- Majority of pax currently flying 1-stop on this route paying similar or cheaper fare than CX will convert to Oasis.
- JL,KE,CI,CA,PR,MU,BR,UA will see a substantial drop in connecting traffic especially for through pax(Same day connection).
- Oasis starts to 'steal' pax originating fm beyond YVR such as U.S. West Coast and the rest of Canada to connect with Oasis flight to HKG fm YVR even without interline agreement.
