TAM Brazil with MD-11

TAM Brazil is adding three MD-11 ex-Varig in a measure while they're awaiting its three 777-3000ER ordered from Boeing. The first aircraft painted in VEM on GIG, entered on services to CDG. The second and third aircraft will entered in service in March and april respectively.
Because Airbus don't have any aircraft for long-haul routes for imediately delivery, the MD-11 is a mean time measure and the orders with Boeing, the first one from TAM Brazil, is because the Airbus will not have aircraft for delivery soon.
We don't forget TAM ordered eight A350-800 from Airbus, but will get long time to be delivered.

I know TAM have ordered the 777-300, but what I don't understand is why they didnt stick with Airbus. I mean they have an all airbus fleet until now with the MD11. When you mention long haul what kind of long haul are we looking at. I mean as far as I know TAM only operate transatlantic and North American routes. Are they planning to go to Japan like Varig did once and Vasp had a route I think it was to Seol. If thats the case maybe they need the 777's to operate non stop from GRU. Then I can understand why they bought them. On the other hand maybe they are going to use them for higher density routes to Europe and the USA. But neverthe less Its gonna be good to see the 777 and MD11 here in REC.

They didn't stick with Airbus because the European manufacturer doesn't have aircraft to delivery to TAM in the few months, and TAM may loose the routes to LHR and JFK. Maybe in the near future they have plans to fly to Tokyo-NRT.
Vasp flown to Seoul in the early '90 years. I hardly can't wait to see the 777-300ER of TAM in GRU and photograph.
TAM is planning more routes to Europe not announced yet.

Thanks for your reply. Interesting answer. Its a shame that Airbus doesn't have the available aircraft. However it would be so nice to see a t7 in thier colours. I'm still waiting to get a glimplse of the md11. Ive seen several photos of it. But living here in rec we usually get the A330 about lunchtime to operate the Sao Paulo Paris/Miami routes. Lets hope the md11 come soon

I'm not sure if MD-11 PT-MSH of TAM is stopping in REC. The flight from GRU to CDG departs at nights. The return from CDG is at nights too, arriving in GRU early in the morning.
But keep your eyes opened.

Yes your right. The A330 operates the GRU-REC-REC- GRU usually arriving around luinch time here in REC then it departs around 17.00/18.00 to GRU then to CDG. From ive seen here in REC the A330 is still operating the REC-GRU route as for the GRU-CDG route I'm not sure. But as you inform me its the MD11.

Which aielines is still operating MD-11 aircraft in passenger configuration apart from TAM, Varig and KLM?
I think is not much!
Ediney Ribeiro, one Photographed here, pictured the PT-MSH see on photographers list. He shot on GRU, an airport without a terrace to take photos.
Like our coleague Remi took good pictures, of PT-MSH.
Another question, there is another photographer in Philadelphia, apart myself, that post photos here?

you missed Finnair but i think thats all of them. Shame really but still there are plenty of cargo varients
Lufthansa Cargo, Alitalia Cargo, UPS, FEDEX e.t.c
World Airways may also still operare MD11's for passengers although im not sure
Now try to name as many no cargo operators of DC10's. I think there is only Biman Bangladesh left now

I can see the last DC10 passenger carrier in scheduled service replacing its DC10's soon. Especially if they get banned from Europe rather like the PIA machines are going to
Very sad really. Hopefully the MD11 will fly for a while longer yet. I also missed Martinair off earlier and they operate both Cargo and PAX MD11's
