Texas Pacific bid for Qantas

SYDNEY: Australia's national carrier, Qantas, said Wednesday it has been approached by Macquarie Bank of Australia and U.S. private equity firm Texas Pacific Group for a possible takeover.
The company said in a statement to the Australian Stock Exchange the approach, made on behalf of an unnamed consortium, was confidential and incomplete. The company is investigating, it added.
An Australian newspaper had reported that Macquarie Bank is leading a buyout for the airline and the value quoted is around A$10 billion

Qantas wont close down. Nothing will chane except the owners would become Texas pacific and the Macquarie Bank.
Not good for the Australian Aviation Industry so lets hope the hostile bid will be refused and an Austrailian backer can be found

I'm plastimodelmaker and i built one Hasegawa hobby kit with QANTAS current livery, was a B767-338/ER and i agree woth you badboys777, i don't wanna see the major Australian airline to shut down or with own by the Americans.

If I'm not mistaking, Australian law makes it kinda difficult. Correct me if wrong, but if I recall correctly there's a law that 49% of the shares should remain in Australian possession.
It's nice that they bid on Quantas, but I doubt there'll be a take-over anytime soon.
