Good morning, thought I'd post a short flight report on my brief business trip on Southwest between LAX and SJC (San Jose, California). Up and back same day.

WN1860, LAX-SJC, morning flight, B737-300. This was one of the older 733's in WN's fleet and the age showed in the interior of the cabin. The carpeting was dirty, the upholstery was a bit frayed and there were paint chips and scuff marks on the cabin and lavatory walls. The flight was only about half full. Service was outstanding (as is usually the case on WN) for a 55 min flight. Flight departed and arrived on time. FA's were cheerful and pleasant.

WN3515, SJC-LAX, late afternoon flight, B737-700. This 73G was about 8 years old but the interior looked newish. The flight left on time but was delayed a bit enroute due to heavy traffic at LAX. Arrival was about 10 min late. Again, service was outstanding and the FA's kept their good cheer despite the flight being completely full.

WN doesn't offer amenities like free satelite radio, food for sale or added legroom for a fee like its low-cost competitors Frontier, Airtran or JetBlue, but their aircraft are well-serviced and their employees at all levels are cheerful and try hard to please the customer, unlike most other US airlines. The level of service you get is more than adequate for the short flights WN specializes in.

If you either (1) buy the  Business Select  (highest) fare and guarantee priority boarding or (2) check in online early you stand a good chance at getting a row 1 bulkhead or row 12 exit seat with loads of legroom. Seat 12F on all WN flights has no seat in front of it.

I fly WN quite often and have never had an unpleasant flight with them, and not to mention they're the safest major airline in the world today with close to 700 aircraft operated in their history and only one hull loss and no passenger fatalities to date.

We flew WN again last weekend LAX-BNA (Nashville, Tennessee) for a wedding and once again the flights were smooth and punctual, and the service outstanding. The LAX gate agent gave us priority boarding (we didn't pay extra for it) when she saw my wife was pregnant and getting tired from standing in the boarding queue.

We're booked again on WN next week LAX-SLC to see the mighty Toffees playing the MLS all-stars in Salt Lake. I'll let you know how those flights work out.
