Hi guys well in a previous thread i mentioned that we get some unsual traffic here in REC. Well yesterday we had an Aerolinhas Argentina 747-400 do an emergency landing here in REC. There was some kind of oil leak on no3 so 380 people spent the night here while they fixed it. It came from MAD

After looking up airfleet.net's data, I believe this particular 744 must be 1 of the 3 Aerolineas 747-475s sourced indirectly fm the old CP(Canadian Airlines Int'l and later merged into AC) as 75 is the Boeing customer code for CP. Those 3 were delivered new to CP between 90-92 and I hv flown on them under CP colors a few times. All 3 are powered by GE CF6-80 turbofans.
For a 744 that is at least 16yrs old, it's very expensive(Except for rich carriers still operating huge 744 fleets such as LH,BA,SQ,JL,CX,etc.) to properly maintain all 4 turbofans so I imagine inflight oil leaks won't be uncommon. Depending on how well Aerolineas maintain these 744s, U may see 1 of them visiting for emergency repair again @ REC.

Apparantley it was here for a good 24hrs and ive heard that the 747 in question is very well maintained. Also, as far as I know it is one of the 747's from AC that is of a good age. But nevertheless good to see here in REC. I would have got some photos of it but I was working at the time and and was passing the airport when I saw the tail and took a quick look from the new flyover here in REC. A first thought it was a charter but then i heard the local news

Not sure what do U mean by 747's FROM AC THAT IS OF A GOOD AGE...
The fact is Boeing delivered all of AC/CP's 744s(747-475) during 90-92 and nearly all went to Aerolineas later. I don't think any 16-18yrs old 744 can be considered young nor even middle-age. Mechanical-wise, much more frequent(And super expensive) D or E-checks(Structural/Airframe) would begin as mandated(i.e. Maintain airworthiness cert.) and similar stories with those 4 engines. Unless the operator invests heavily in cabin renovations+upkeeping(Doubt that's a typical Aerolineas' practice), U'll also start to see interior condition deteriorating on many 744s.
Last nite, I was flying on a CX 744 and found the reading light overhead my seat was the most ineffective(A candle would be brighter) I've ever used on any aircraft during the past 10yrs! More seriously, I also noticed that not far fm my seat, the cover of a no smoking+seatbelt sign in the ceiling was dangling fm its frame. I could actually see the lightbulbs(Lights were on) and the wirings inside. It was a full flight so there were pax siting directly under it. I'm totally surprised how CX maintanance or even cabin crew can overlook such pax safety hazard when:
1. The flight was flying to/fm high humidity airport(SIN) - short circuit by water condensation on ceiling was entirely possible when many cabin doors were left open for loading/unloading @ the gate.
2. It wouldn't take much shaking for the seatbelt sign cover to land on pax's head as we climbed through some rough turbulence shortly after takeoff. It's a small piece but it can cause injuries as the sign cover is rectangular and has sharp edges.......
Anyway, I did considered to warn the cabin crew but they were rarely in sight. I even pressed the call button a few times before a FA finally showed-up after like 30mins or something......ridiculous cabin service level....but that's another CX-bashing story.....
If the condition of a 744 operated/maintained by a WORLD BEST AIRLINE AWARD winner(i.e. CX) is like that, imagine how VERY WELL MAINTAINED it could be for a Aerolineas 744...
