In and around Manchester Airport there is signs saying 'this airport will soon feature a new mood and feel' About time!
Some work has began, near the Jet2 and My Travel check in desks. I haven't seen what they have done yet! Will all the terminal buildings be renovated for a more modern look?
Also is Air China really goingto start a route to Manchester via Beijing? And when will Cathay be coming?

They are bringing the airside zone moe closer to checkin so they can have more shop's and can rob you of even more money. Since the no liquids has come all shops have a fall in drink sales and as the airport take's some of the profits from the shops, it makes good money sence for them and cost's the customer even more money to buy a drink. The view from the cafe windows will soon become a thing of the past.

Hi Billy, You can't go wrong if you go to Manchester spotting. unlike BAA owned airports Manchester has a dedicated viewing area just to the south of the airport complete with parking, teas coffee and snacks even a static Concorde! You have to pay a small fee for access, only a few pounds and you can stay all day. There is also some raised mounds for photography and the aircraft taxi close enough to almost touch depending which way they are operating. I am sure some of the locals will add their comments with more details soon but I have managed to get there once and although it was freezing I had a great day!
John.

How come airlines like JAL, Eva Air, ANA, China Airlines, Korean Air, Asiana and Air New Zealand never seem to come to Manchester for passenger use? I always thought thay would, Malaysia Airlines used to do a service to Manchester didn't they.

Yes sadly the point to point routes at Manchester are awful for longhaul. Hopefully some of those airlines will consider these kinds of routes to Manchester when the 787 comes into service. I have been to the viewing park today and have also been told several rumours but forgot them.

- Oasis Hong Kong 4x weekly (unlikely)

It's so annoying, instead of flying direct to lets say NRT, you have to connect at AMS, FRA, LHR etc. Well I don't mind it's my dad, he hates queues!

KL1086:
Obviously, it all depends on whether traffic volume+avg yield per pax are sufficient to support profitable services on a route to/fm MAN. It's always nice/romantic for airlines(Especially national airlines) to plant a new flag on their worldwide route maps. In today's industry environment of high fuel+labor+other op costs, I'm afraid nearly all airlines are much more interested in maximizing profit than national/corporate pride. That's why MH(Basically, a gov't owned airline) pulled out of MAN and hv been doing the same for many of their low profit/traffic destinations.

Fm what I hv learnt fm the biz plans of these airlines based in Asia-Pcf U hv stated(i.e. JL, Eva, NH, CA, KE, OZ, NZ), there is a common theme for their pax ops: Deploy resources(Including new efficient aircrafts like 787) on high-growth/profitability routes ONLY. Nearly all of these plans are primarily focusing on transpacific mkts to the U.S. and intra-Asia Pcf mkts to China+India(Including 2nd or even 3rd tier city airports beyond PEK,PVG,DEL,BOM in which few Europeans ever heard of but experiencing an influx of foreign invesments on a scale the world has never seen before). Due to primarily biz traffic, the avg yield on these routes is incredible and roughly 1.5-2 times higher(But still fully booked) than any routes to Europe. There're little or no mention about service expansion to Europe except the 1st-tier city airports such as AMS,CDG,LHR,FRA,etc.
