Hi there,
This is my first post on this forum:):) I've just purchased the Canon 100-400mmL IS USM, which i believe to be a decent lens for spotters. That's what I've heard from many spotters around me. To be honest, I've bought this lens for this sole purpose! Can anybody tell me if this lens is a good combination mounted on the 400D? Your opinions will be very welcome! I've heard so many odd things before...
It'll be more helpful to have the opinions from the ones who've been using it and know what they're talking about.
Hope that you could help me out!

I have two cameras:
A Canon S3 IS with 18-58mm lens for shooting closing to the aircraft, i'm ramp agent at PHL having access to many areas of this airport.
And a Canon 400D with 100-400mm L IS USM, which is very good to take shots during landing or taking off from distance. You are on the ground far away from the aircraft, which is as you said, a very good combination. Don't choose the high ISO because will generate grain on the photos, it's better a low ISO.
The 400D with the 100-400mm is more than decent and in my opinion better than the Nikon D70 or any Nikon and the Olympus.
I've been looking your photos and of Aurelian, your buddy, and they are very good. Paris' CDG and ORY are airports not easy to shoot from and for sure requires the 100-400mm lens, especialy photos on the ground, the distance of the spotting locations from the aircraft.
