How strict is the screening process to put photos on here. I dont post on anet or jet photos because they involve too much editing and I havent really touched photoshop.

Thanks

Fairly strict I think, I have recently uploaded a few photos and had about a 50 50 sucess rate to get them accepted. The site requires you to edit your photos first so you will have to use some sort of editing software, I use Photoshop Elements version 2 which is easy to use and some times comes up on ebay for around £20 in unused condition. If you go on the photo uplad link on the site there is a brilliant step by step guide by a chap called Miguel Claudio which inspired me to get started. Don't be dis heartened if you get rejections after all its part of the learning curve and they always give a reason why. good luck John.

If after read the tips from Miguel Claudio and still have some some questions, i can post the rejection guideline for photos here on the forum, i'm airfleets.net screener and can say i'm fairly strict.

Werne,

Please post the rejection/acceptance guideline. I recently have a number of photos reject without giving any reason.

I also have a nice QF Wunala Dreaming B744 photo taken in bright sunny day rejected for  BAD colour . I am scratching my head on this one.

I would rather see the reason be more specific, such as too red, too blue. What is exactly  bad colour ? Did this screener calibrate the colour on his/her monitor?

Rejection guideline:

-Wrong size (less than 800 x 500)(the size of your photo is not correct, must be 2x3 or 3x4 sized);

-Copyright bar from another site;

-Unsupported aircraft type;

-Photo already in the database;

-Grain;

-Sharpeness;

-Blurr;

-Aircraft overexposed;

-Pic is not straight to the horizon;

-Aircraft is not centered;

-Photo is underexposed;

-Bad cropping;

-Obstacle on the photo (vehicle, wire fencing);

-Bad quality (the photo is below of criteria of acceptance of the site);

-Error during upload.

These are the standard reasons to reject a photo. But we screeners are able to give some non-standard reasons to reject as follow bellow:

-Bad colour (if the aircraft appear to be with distortion colours);

-Heat distortion;

-Sun Glare.

I encourage all photographers to solve the problem given as rejection reason and re-upload the photo.
I never give a rejection witouth any reason.

Spot planes,

Maybe your recents uploads were not screened by me.

Only say by myself, my monitor is very calibrated the colours.

If the photo doesn't match any rejection reason, we accept the pic.

We screeners would wanna accept many photos as we can and we are fairly on considering each photo screening very carefully taking all the time necessary to do it right way.

yes, like above, you have to use some good quailty but expensive cameras. Like Canon Rebel XTL, Cannon series....

And you got to get a good look at the aircraft that you are taking. It can't be cut off. And also, may be you have a dirty lens or some body in the way, or too much people in a pics.
like Airliners.net, it has to be 100% perfect, and thats why my pictures can't be uploaded. Some times it said the angle....
Got a question, is there is any free photoshops, or any stuff can made it better in the computer, free?
And also what tools do you make you pictures smaller or bigger. You know it says that it can't be bigger than something by something, and not smaller than 800 x 600....

I have a question for the screeners linked to this topic. I have recently had some photos rejected because the horizon is not straight, how do you decide this as the photo had no obvious horizon ie. Landing shot of aircraft with no buildings in shot so no vertical point of reference, hills in the background so no horizontal reference and the runway was not level ie. sloping downhill so again no hotizontal reference point. Am I not understanding the term horizon not straight? Thanks for any guidance you may give. John.

Hi John,
I obviously can only speak for myself, but given what you have described I would assume it was rejected due to the slope of the runway. With no other visual reference other than the runway, the slope of the runway would be the deciding factor. You must take into account that you are aware the runway has a slope but as a screener, I can only use the information in the photo.

Hope this helps.

Hi John,

Pic not straight to the horizon, like Ray said, has the runway as reference and the slope would be the deciding factor.

I agree 100 per cent with Ray in his post and we screeners only use the information in the photo.

Thankyou to both of the screeners who replied to my question, at least I understand the meaning of the term  horizon not straight  In future I will try and get my shots with at least some reference point in it even if it is only a tree or man made structure to show a vertical reference if the horizon is not obvious. I do not want to rotate my photos so the runway is horizontal as it will make the landing aircraft appear to have too great an angle of attack so looking like it is about to stall!! My local airport ie Bristol Lulsgate in the UK has a fairly steep slope at the eastern end so taking good photos here will be a challenge. Thank you again John.

John,

Photos on the ground are easier than the sky ones, where you have to fix a point on the plane route on landing or taking off, a real challenge! The speed of the aircraft makes you crop the plane full on the photo from left to right and centered (same size of space bottom and above), just in one second!

I've never been on Bristol Lulsgate, but the movements sure not big. London Heatrow is a challenge, you must take shots during take offs or landings, not quite possible on the ground.

To the screeners:

Just a further idea in respect of using the information in the photo to decide horizon, the site already allows information about the photo ie. comments about the aircraft. How about a separate comments link where the photographer can make a private comment to help the screener which will not be published with the shot, for instance to say that the runway has a slope so that it may make the screening process easier?

Thanks again John.

Sometimes I wonder what the screener was drinking when screening photos. No offense

Photo 32914 was rejected twice. Now it is the most popular last 24Hr.

Photo 93970 was rejected as not straight to the horizon. I resubmit twice without re-editing and now accepted. You'll be the judge and see if the photo is straight to the horizon or not.

Spot Planes,
I think this has been explained before, there are screening guidelines to follow which we do to the best of our ability. Sometimes mistakes will be made, sometimes images are accepted that should not and some will be rejected that should have been accepted. I'm fairly sure if you look back over all your images I'm sure you will find some in there that on a different day would have been rejected.

If you feel that your shots are being screened unfairly then please contact the site owner who will I'm sure review the screening.

A few photos only, from some photographers, was rejected once or twice and then got acceptance because the photographers may have editted the photo and send it again.

We judge the photos very seriously and as i said first in this thread: Taking all the necessary time looking each detail on every photo before accepting or rejecting!

For sure the photos when not accepted (some rejected photos had never acceptance because was no way to edit or fit as bad quality.), will give always the right reason as rejected.
