All 3 units of CX's 346 fleet used on HKG-YYZ are leased and acquired mainly to replace the 343s originally deployed for the HKG-JFK non-stop route due to better econ payload performance+more capacity to meet what has been outstanding demand in F+C classes. As the 346s are due to return to the lessor later this yr, they won't get the planned new-style cabin upgrade like CX's 744s and long-range 333s(Not sure about the 343s).
Until CX deploy their latest 77W on HKG-YYZ, CX pax in C-class can continue to enjoy the older, non-horizontal lie-flat seats+higher avg fare than AC. This gives AC a temporary competitive edge on this route due to superior C-class cabin product+lower avg fare.
In my opinion, this won't worry CX too much as there're always people, like many of my colleagues & friends based in HKG, who are mentally stuck with flying CX(Excellent mkting+branding probably has something to do with this) and don't realize they're usually paying more but getting less fm CX AND other equivalent options do exist. In addition, they also GET people who live within driving distance of YYZ(i.e. No need for N.American connections @ YYZ) to think CX is a god-send to fly to Asia+Australia via the HKG hub.
I don't hate CX. In fact, at least 1/3 of all my flights(Nearly all for biz trips on company's travel budget) per yr hv been with CX. Their services are generally better than the worldwide avg in both short and long-haul sectors. It's just that I hv a problem with the poor return on CX fare. I almost never fly them if I hv to pay fm my own pocket(I don't mind splurge a little for superior service fm time to time so I'm not exactly a low-fare addict). CX is not bad but they're not among the world's best, yet they're charging @ fare levels as if they are.

Like : FLX said, things in CX can be very bad and can be super good. Like from my point of view, when you look at most of the Big Airlines in the world, CX are one of the best developed cabin with PTV. As I travel around the world last year, I had CX as one of the top list. Because they have one of the most developed cabins, developed airplanes...
What I think they need to improve is the cabin crew members. They have to make us, the passengers, as happy as we can, or as comfortable as we can, I experienced some angry crew, or some crew that thosn't care about as, so I think they need to improve the crew's attitude. If they can improve that, I think I would 100% taking CX, than any other airlines.

If any of U hv an opportunity to try O8(Oasis Hong Kong) vs CX, U'll experience a huge diff in frontline staff service attitude(Both ground+cabin crew).
Similarities:
1) Both airlines are based in HKG.
2) Both fly intercon routes.
3) Both fly 744 as the backbone of their Intercon fleet.
4) Both airlines' staff are predominantly HK Chinese.
5) Both hv C and Y classes on all of their flights.
Diff:
1) 1 has FFP mileage program+super fancy airport lounges and the other doesn't.
2) 1 typically charge half or less fare of the other on the same routes.
3) The avg age of the 744 of the 1 with the longer history is significantly older(And it shows in the cabin) than the new guy's.
4) Cabin/Ground staff of 1 treat U like dirt even if U fly C-class and the other treat U like a king/queen even if U're only flying Y-class.
