Spanair MD-83 in disguise!

Hi everyone. While browsing the photo database I came across photo number 49642 and was puzzled by what I saw. Have a look at the photo and maybe you will ask yourself the same question I asked myself which is why does Spanair MD-83 EC-GVO 'sunspot' have an MD-88 decal on its starboard engine nacelle? Is it my eyes?? Cheers, Mark.

if You look closely at the regs and the history of the airplane is it says that it was converted from an MD-88 to an MD-83 http://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-md80-49642.htm

According to McD-Douglas this has always been a 83 and it would cost more than the airliner is worth to convert.
