Tokyo (dpa) - A China Airlines plane caught fire Monday at Naha airport in the southern Japanese island of Okinawa, local media reported.

The right engine of the China Airlines flight 120 caught fire around 10:30 am (0130 GMT) shortly after the 155 passengers disembarked the plane at Naha Airport.

Some crew members may be left inside the Boeing 737, which left Taipei at 9:23 am.

Another crash, like in Tahiti and TAM crash, this year became bad for aviation, that's sad. Boeing is and old project but with many moderned improvements and i believe one of best aircraft types. I think was bad maintenance.

Jetphotos has the aircraft down as B-18616 B737-800 (C/N 30175)

I just hope every one got of it before it caught fire. Rumours are that some of the crew is missing. Hopefully they are okay.

It sounded like the TAM crash was a Boeing. I thought it was an A320.

The TAM was an Airbus A320. The Boeing 737NG's were those of GOL, Kenya Airways and now China Airlines

I hv read more details fm the news re this accident. Explosion originated fm the CFM56 engines. CI has now grouded its 738 fleet completely and the Japanese gov't has ordered immediate inspection on all 737NGs of NH and JL.

If the cause cannot be quickly identified, I wonder if this will affect ops of all other 737NGs and even the majority of A320 family equipped with CFM56(More popular on A320s than IAE's V2500) worldwide...... Good thing I don't hv any planned flights involving 737NGs or A320 family in the nex 3 mths. 2 yrs ago, I used to fly @ least 4-5 times monthly on either 737NGs or A320 family, almost all with CFM56s.

I hope it doesn't affect all fleets around the world because this would be a scar on one of the world's most reliable airlines and would cause major headaches for airlines like Westjet. Sad to see though.

It's my 1st time to hear someone describe CI(China Airlines) as  one of the world's most reliable airlines . May I know why U said that?

CI has an avg of over 6 fatal events per million of flights comparing with a worldwide avg of under 1 event per million of flights. I find it difficult to regard an airline as reliable if it has that kind of accident rate:
