Hi.
There are not too many differences between them.
The DC-10 made its first flight back in August 1970 and though the first versions had some problems, airliners continued to buy the DC-10 as the technical changes improved its safety.
The aircraft was a project by the Douglas Civilian Aircraft Company division of the McDonell Douglas Corporation.
The MD company was created in 1968 with the fusion of the Douglas and the McDonnell, and later when Boeing merged with MD company the production of the aircraft continued and in January 1990 the DC-10 (with some changes like the winglets, or a shorter fuselage and re-engined) become MD-11, and was produced untill the year 2000. (just to mention a couple of another Boeing MD aircrafts also famous, you have the Boeing 717 and the C-17 Globemaster)
If you like numbers and tech. details, the DC-10 series 30 had normally 3 GE CF6-50 high bypass turbofans capable of deploying 48,100Lb of trust. It's cruising speed was 920 Km/h (the B742 max speed is 980 Km/h and the L1011 925 Km/h)with a range of 7500 Km (the B742 can fly 8000 Km and the L1011 only 4700 Km).
By this you can see that it was back then a reliable long-haul carrier.
Hope this helps, and by the way...some DC-10's and MD-11's

The md-10 is a number assigment which boeing gives the dc-10 when the cockpits are refitted, instead of a 2 pilots and flight engineer the cockpit is being replaced with the md-11 cockpit which only uses 2 pilots and NO flight engineer. Fedex had a deal with boeing to convert all of their dc-10's to md-10's.
