Before landing checklist

I want to know if there's something I missed now when I write the things you have to do in prep. for landing:
-flaps (usually to FULL?)
-speed brakes (spoilers) to 1-4
-landing lights
-slots
-AP usually to 2500ft in case of go-around
-gear DN
What else? My friend and I play FS X, which is really realistic and we have it all very correct, but I want to know what else should we do? I've flown in A320 cockpit number of times and in A330 cockpit once and I've seen it all being done, but I can't remember it all.

Well i can't use a glideslope or ILS to guide me in because i dont know how they work. As a result i usually end up doing visual approaches. I have successfully landed the B737-400 and stopped on the runway but when i attempt to fly the B777-300ER or B747-400 i usually cant get of the ground and if i do i mess up my approach overshoot or miss the runway completely. I know this is because of lack of practice. Anyways i think you have covered everything that is prep for landing!

Oh yeah, really.. Haven't thought of that. Also the NON-SMOKING sign throughtout the flight. We do our approaches with AP, and fly with either VFR or IFR. The thing about IFR is you must talk to the controls all the tima. It gets exhausting after a while. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

You thought everything. I flown FS 2004 and i can see the plane from outside and know if i had everything, very realistic.
But i don't have much practice, and missing the runway is common. To get more practice i take off and landing the same runway both side aproach. The procedures of check list you said is correct, and sometimes i have some difficulty to control of plane.
My difficulty is i'm touching down the plane very hard, i miss the control of plane. What i have to do fopr better control on landings?

Well that is a problem i have with heavies. If i do make it to the touchdown spot i bounce back into the air and then this causes me to overshoot. I recently flew a 773 from Toronto to Montreal and trying to land i lined up then as i got closer i realised that i was way off. I then touched down with one of the main gear on the grass and bounced up again. Tried again but overshot the runway. The main gear failed making the nose plow into the earth. Again i had the same problem in Melbourne and at Manchester in the same aircraft. I did once manage to land a 744 perfectly though (my first ever flight on the 744). Not done it since though.

Werkur737,
the speed brakes (spoilers) are useful in touchdown, as they glue you to the runway, so you don't bounce back and there's no need for the go-around. And reverse is also useful (and necessary) to straighten the plane on the runway and stop. We fly B737s and A380s, which we fly very good actually.

There's a very useful piece of advice:
when landing,
-touchdown with the back gear
-put the spoilers to MAX or to FULL
-it will automatically lower the front gear and really gluze you to the runway
-the only thing you have left to do is to be careful not to skid off the runway

Well i had spoilers set to max upon touchdown once and still managed to bounce back into the air. G-NIKO you should try to use IFR flight plans if you want a more real experience since these require constant talks to the ATC. I just need to practice my landings and i will be fine.
Incidently i have to use the autopilot to takeoff in heavies since they just overshoot if i don't. What am i doing wrong.

Yeah, if you use IFR, it gets a little bit tiring after a while, all that talks.. But it's nice experience.
SJR, about your takeoff in heavies (that's how me and my friend do and it's always turned out fine):
-try to straighten by the RWY centerline as soon as possible, so you have more runway to takeoff
-gradually increase power of the engines
-retract flaps and spoilers
-takeoff manually
-as soon as possible after takeoff, ON the autopilot which you set as you like before the taxi (set HDG, SPD, ALT and so on as you think is best) and after T/O just ON the AP and it will fly.
As for spoilers in landing, I've seen it in the cockpit and we're doing like that in FS:
-use the spoilers in approach (no need for MAX, just a little bit), BUT
-touchdown with spoilers retracted
-immediately after touchdown, spoilers to MAX
If you look at the crosswind landing video(s), you'll see that TAP A320 uses the spoilers after touchdown.

What approach speed should you attempt to land aircraft at anyways. Maybe i have been coming in to fast as well.
I usually land the B747 at 230 knots and the T7 a bit quicker. The B734 i never really checked my landing speed.

It may encourage me more to make perfect landings when i have real airlines. I cant figure which file to put my downloads in. Due to this i cannot have real aircraft.

A couple of ideas. I fly the 737-400, learjet etc with reasonable success.
For the landing check list. ARM the spoilers, spoilers are never deployed in flight with the flaps not up. (except for the Lockheed tristar). the spoilers will extend on landing automatically
Landing speed for 747 A320 737 etc is about 135 knots. 230 knots might explain the overrunns.
Hit reverse F2 after landingand hold until about 60kts on the rollout, then cancel the reverse F1 from there use brakes to stop.
For the take off problems with heavies, the 747 use flaps 10 (long runway)or 20 (short runway) and rotate about 140 kts. 737 use flaps 5 and start rotating at 130kts or so. Gently rotate until (over about 10-12 sec) until about 12 deg nose up and it shoul fly off nicely. Make sure the trim is set to the take off range i.e a little nose up.
For landing using the ILS, disconnect the a/p at about 500' above the runway elevation and manual from there. This is quite normal in real operations.
Landing flap is not always full flap, the 737 normally lands with flap 30 & only use flap 40 if the runway is very short.

Good video B340, perfect touchdown in SIN, encourages me to better aircraft control.
I'll try to use the speed brakes are useful, and i think will use them just after the whole touchdown.
I don't have practice enough to landings without use spoillers.
Another thing is i have no good control of aircraft during the landing, i still touching down the aircraft very hard on runway and the plane usually can touch the wing on the runway.
How to get control of plane during the landing before touch down the runway?
I'm starter on FS 2004, flew only a few times and like to control the plane outside view of the cockpit, back side of the aircraft, for better view of the area. And thanks for the tips, guys.

SJR, what do you mean by real airlines and real aircraft ?
jeppo, I agree with your tip about use of spoilers in flight, but I've flown in a A320 cockpit on approach to AUH, and the captain extended the spoilers to lose some speed.
Werkur737, on approach in FS2004 (or any other FS), the message overspeed frequently appears. In that case, extend spoilers until you come to the lower speed and then retract the spoilers. And as jeppo said, don't touchdown with the spoilers extended. At real landing, they extend on their own when touchdown occurs, but on FS I don't know if it is the case. Just to be sure, my friend and I, we extend the spoilers manually at touchdown. I also like to land and takeoff with the backview. At landing, that's how I see if the flaps and spoilers are deployed correctly.
jeppo, do you mean that the 747 takes off with flaps extended? I didn't think like that, as the flaps slow you down..
