My flight from MIR - LGW (TCX 264L) Thomas Cook

I took off from Monastir Habib Bourguiba about 9:35 PM. Everything seemed fine. During the flight everything seemed fine, oh by the way the aircraft was G-FCLC. Boeing 757-200. We were on our final descent into Gatwick when we heard a noise. Everyone laughed and thought it probably was just regular noise. When we landed we stopped at the end of the runway and the engines shut down. The captain put out an announcement saying: Passengers, about 4 miles out of Gatwick Airport we lost some Hydraulic fluid, the left pipe burst as there are three in the wing, left, centre and right. The left one at this time is most critical. The fire service are inspecting the airpraft at the moment . Nothing like this has happened to me before. That noise must have been the Hydraulic fluid going away. We waited about 20 minutes on the tarmac for the next announcement. The next announcement was: The fire service are putting in pins to hold the nose wheel up so it doesnt retract while we are being towed to our stand. The nose wheel, I am unable to steer at the moment and I have shut the endgines down so we are running off of our Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). The fire service have looked at the left undercarriage which is covered in hydraulic fluid. The fire service are wearing protective clothing, because of the sheer amount of fluid. We should be attaching a tug shortly . They attached a tug and we were towed to the stand. The nose wheel I looked at myself and I saw that it looked in a state. Then I looked at the left undercarriage and it was in fact covered in the fluid. Then we were hussled onto buses to the terminal. What an excitement. I finally got to the terminal at 1:10 AM on 30/7/07 and collected my bag at about 1:30 AM.

Unlike a 757 to give any problems but these things do happen. I asked the crew of a similar aircraft of TCX if there was an emergency how long it would take to evacuate all the passengers and crew. What I was given was what the CAA say should happen and when I asked if they had ever had to do it they said no. The CAA say it can be done in under 3 minutes but this is during a controlled pre-prepared exercise. I recon that many of these aircraft used by charter and budget airlines will due to the large amount of seats fitted and the space between them claim the lives of many during an emergency evacuation that is one reason I preferr to pay a little more to fly with a main line carrier. If you think BA has only 180 seats in a similar aircraft.
