Emirates planing to expand the srilankan fleet once they
nod the new contract. They are probebly planinig to add more destinations in australia, europe, asia, africa specially focusing on indian traffic. For them what will be the best fleet expansion plan . Is it add more airbuses or go for boieng 777-200 er/lr ? I feel they should add more airbuses and it will minimise the cost of expansion. I hope srilankan fleet will be like this
A340 - 300 - 10
A330 - 300 - 04
A330 - 200 - 04
A320 - - 06
ATR 72 - 03 ( to operate small indian cities )

Interesting view but why are Airbus planes better 'Generally'?
Better design?
Better performance?
Better build quality?
Better price?
Better looks?
Better feel for you?
I don't know how Airbus planes can 'generally' be better than Boeing planes. E.g., I can understand 1 aspect/element of an Airbus better than a Boeing and another aspect/element of a Boeing better than an Airbus. Overall, I can't say which 1 as a whole is better.

Yeah OK.. I wrote the wrong word. From what I heard (I've never flown in a Boeing from what I can remember), Boeing isn't as comfortable to fly in as Airbus. Now I'm not saying anything against Boeing, just my opinion about Airbus. And yes, I believe Airbus has -better looking airplanes
-better build quality
-better feel for myself
but I don't know the Boeing that much. Yeah, I guess each one has better and less better sides, but it's just how I feel.
Aside with the fact that A340-600 is longer than B747-400, and A340-500 and -600 have longer operating range..

Well that is an interesting take on things since i have only flown on two airbus A300's and found them to be horrid to fly on. Maybe its because the airline wasnt a very good one. Whereas i have flown on many Boeing aircraft and on the most part have enjoyed the flights. I have also flown on a DC-9 but dont have many memories of that flight.

Comfort on board is not down to the manufacturer but to the specification the airline decides upon. I flew in a Thomas Cook Airlines 757 and it was not one of my better flights due to the seats being so close together but when I used to fly BA 757s I thought they were one of the best airliners in the air as they were well proportioned seat wize and the decor was good.
It is not fair to come to a decision upon an airliner or a manufacturer until you have flown on three or four of the same types with a veriety of carriers.
As a passenger I like both manufacturers types.

Yes OK like I said I've never flown in a Boeing before, but I have flown in A320s of Croatia Airlines and A320s, A330s and A340s of Srilankan Airlines (see my flightlog) and I can say that it really is up to the carrier. I don't know if the class you're flying in matters, but on Croatia I always get my ears blocked (economy class) and on all planes of Srilankan it's so nice too fly in, maybe it's the first class I fly in for the 90% of Srilankan flights.

Must be the First Class as the Economy on UL's A332 is not my favourite (being very friendly here). I fly the CX A330's these days and indeed it's the airline that determines the level of comfort (UL should be able to benefit from its EK link)... However I still prefer the B777 over the A330 (and over the A340).

B340:
Of course, it's upto the cabin class. U'll never expect a presidential suite to offer U the same space and luxury as a standard twin room in a Hilton hotel, will U?
Mrtnw, B340:
Aside fm factors(Seat design, cabin decor, seat pitch, IFE, Food & Beverage, flight attendants serivce, etc.) determine by airlines rather than manufacturer which can be repeated on either a Boeing or Airbus, I can't say whether 772 or A332/333 has better cabin comfort because:
1. More % of window or aisle seats in A332/333 compared with 772/773 per row in their typical layout. A332/333 is better here.
2. When standing or sitting(especially in window seat), window, cabin sidewall and overhead bin are always closer to your head in A332/333 than 772/773. 772/773 is better here.
I hv flown on both A333 and 772/773 in both C and Y cabin classes in many airlines and my listed observations are consistently the same.
captain bill:
This may surprise U(Also me @ the beginning) but the best cabin design for comfort I hv experienced is actually the B717/MD80/90. Before my 1st flight on a B717/MD80/90 in Hawaii, I thought they were inferior to the A320/737NG in terms of comfort. How wrong was I! I hv never experienced such a quiet cabin in my life. Except the extreme end of the aircraft, U hear almost no engine noise throughout the entire cabin(C or Y class doesn't matter). It's such a great cabin to sleep or work in that I wouldn't mind spending many hrs in it. Sadly, these planes are slowly being retired around Asia and the U.S. In Europe, I think only SAS and Alitalia used to operate them in great numbers but none in U.K., right?
Gosh, I miss those planes designed with advanced low noise turbofans+placing them all the way @ the tail away fm the cabin!

There are a few other MD80's in Europe. Iberia and Spanair still have quite a few. There are some in the United Kingdom registered to Flightline. G-FLTL for example. Although these are mostly used for charter work for other carriers. There is also the croatian carrier Dubrovnik which operates five MD80's at this time.

FLX:
first, that's what I wanted to say to you; the Croatian operator Dubrovnik Airline operates MD80s.
And interesting (although I have never flown in them, but my Mum was a stewardess for a time on MD80), many people say that MD80s are quite noisy from the outside. But if you say they're quiet from the inside, I'll take your word for it.
And third, maybe they are more comfortable making less noise, but I find the engines below the tail somewhat disturbing the overall simetry of the aircraft..

Well i have flown on the DC9 and compared with my next flight on the A300 it was really quite. There was a few years in between however. The MD80 is quite loud but no more so than a B737-200.

Sorry, poor memory, I think I never flew MD80. Though, I did @ least 8 flights on 717/MD90 since my 1st time in 2001 on a Hawaiian 717.
BR715 turbofans on the 717(EIS 99) and the IAE V2500 turbofans on the MD90(EIS 95) should be significantly more quiet than the engines on the MD80(EIS 80) and comparable(Same generation tech) with the latest CFM-56 turbofans on all 737NG and on many in A320 family(Some A320s also use IAE V2500). However, the engine positions of MD80's basic layout ensure that future variants(i.e. MD90/717), given the same generation tech turbofans, can potentially create a quieter cabin than any under-wing design such as 737NG and A320.
B340:
May be U're talking about exterior appearance re symmetry in which I hv no comments. But in terms of airflow, do U know a wing without engine is always @ least a bit more aerodynamically efficient(e.g. figher jets)? Many current airliners are designed with engines under-wing only because of 1 reason: Easy access for maintenance = Spend longer time in the air = Better aircraft utilization
