As you know there is currently only one but i heard today that the second one, the one that was never completed is being finished and will fly in Feb 07. Does anyone know if this information is correct and if so what the aircraft is to be registered. If this is true it is good news although the great UR-82060 will no longer be unique

WOW! Another AN225, sounds like good news!:) Im very suprised as when the first was built after about a year of service it was stored and sat on ground for 8 years! But then the antonov design bureua decided for a re-launt and did this (i cant remember what year) then took it to the Paris airshow for the second time! Never seen the AN225 would ,love to see it i know it has stopped at Manchester and East Midlands before wonder if it vists regularly to any airport in England. A programme on the national geo channels said that at one point there was planes on making it into a flying cruise ship, this was when it first came out. But if it was made into a passenger plane it would be able to hold 1500 people i was stunned OVER 3 TIMES THE AMMOUNT OF A 747-400.

Imagine Airbus's reaction to that. I'm glad there is a second in final stages of completion Maybe FEDEX may buy one hehehehehe

Sadly there will only ever be two and both will be operated by Antonov. The one i was talking about was the second aircraft but this was never completed because of the collapse of the russian space program. Hopefully this second machine will take up a nice colour scheme. In answer to whether it flies to the U.K. regularly the answer is no unfortunately. I was lucky enough to catch it at Manchester since i live locally to the airport.

markallday, 19 Feb : Have you ever seen the studies by Lockheed where they joined 2x C-5  Galaxy  hulls side by side connected with a centrewingsection like this:
T T
------[ ]---[ ]------ in a high shoulder setting (sorry, my keyboard only allows limited graphics, you just have to imagine the rest). The talk was of 2600 Pax, cruising was alright, problem in the early 70s was getting airborne. It was estimated that some type of a hydrogen-rocket engine could do the job sometimes in the future...
