A very happy new year to all fellow enthusiasts...

Just wondering what this year has instore for those of us who love and enjoy tha airline industry. What changes will we see ? Who will merge with who ? Who will disapear from the industry ? And so many other questions remain unanswered.

What would you like to see this year ? New carriers arriving into your airport or what ever it may be then please share it with us.

What do you think will happen and then let's see on the 31st. of December if it did come to pass or not.

Again I will join in later on after I put some thoughts together.

O and all the best to Tartan Wings for the future.

Well thank you and a happy new year to you also.
As regards to what i would like to see and think could possibly happen at Manchester my local airport.

Iberia return to Manchester after a few years absence caused by the codeshare with BA Connect. This may happen as they may not wish to have a codeshare with a low fare airline such as Flybe

British Airways to drop New York service from Manchester in favor of everything from London. This allowing American Airlines the possibility of offering the service instead with more modern equipment

Cathay Pacific was rumoured to be starting in March this year 3x weekly via Moscow but this didn't happen they then changed the route and this was again supposed to start later in the year. I can see this happening this year with the A340-300 equipment. This would therefore be the only A340 serving Manchester for the time being

Northwest Airlines starting B757-200 services on a daily basis. Its not just me that thinks this could happen, i have spoken to lots of people who agree that this may happen at the start of the summer season. Then there would only be United Airlines not operating at Manchester

Thai Airways to start 777 services via Mumbai to Bangkok. My personal favourite of the year and this has been in the making since late 2005 when i first heard the rumours.

Not Manchester related but i expect the first Airbus A380 to be delivered this year even if it is late in the year and also the B787 to take shape and take to the air

Anyway these are what i think could happen this year although i am sure other people have other opinions.

If AAL were to launch service from JFK-MAN to take over the route for BAW, it would most likely be with B763 equipment as well.

hey there is no harm in having wishful thinking. We already get the 752 and 763 so the 772 would be great. I do however realise the unlikely prospect of this actually happening

yep i think it is very possible. But i think a merger will happen or cash will be found to keep it afloat. They may have to considerably downsize which would mean that they never would get back to their current size as someone would probably take most of their routes away. Shame really. Over the past few years there have been a number of suprises in the airline world

How many 737's do you think will crash this year. Remember there have been crashes of the aircraft in the previous two years and the figure for this year is one. I may even have missed some

Mandarin Airlines 732 (05)
Helios Airways 733 (05)
GOL 738 (06)
Adam Air 734 (07)

I hope and pray there will be no further crashes of any type this year as any crash results normally in the loss of life. It would appear that there are more crashes involving 737 types than other airliners but it is because there are more 737s flying than any other type. In the 60s and 70s it looked like it was always B707s that crashed and again it was because it was because there were more of them than any other type in the air.

Yes i also hope there will be but over the last few years there does seem to be a lot involving this type. Strange isn't it. I know they are the best selling aircraft oif all time but why do they always seem to be crashing. One i flew on crashed in 2005 (5B-DBY)

What are your thoughts on Ryanair taking over Aer Lingus this year ? They are very keen to do so and have made a bid for them. Aer Lingus are a good carrier and although Ryan say they will not merge to two airlines I recon there would be some of the  holiday destinations  transfered to Ryan and some of Ryan's  business  destinations transfered to Aer Lingus. We may also see Ryanair going onto the Atlantic (not this year) with their brand of cheap fares and no service and as the traveling public today seem to want the cheapest and dont care about service (until after the flight when they can have a good moan about it) this could further drain some existing trans Atlantic carriers financially.

I personally would hate Ryanair to takeover Aer Lingus but i think another airline might do. If Ryanair were to takeover Aer Lingus i personally feel that they would gut the company and sell all the aircraft. This therefore would lead to there being no Irish national airline and this would be a tremendous shame. Maybe a merger with a company along the lines of British Airways would be good as if i look back the Air France and KLM merger wasn't such a bad thing from what i can tell both carriers are more profitable now!
