AAL & LNE have received approval from the US DOT & Ecuadorean authorities to begin codeshare cooperation.

The carriers say the agreement will strengthen the OW alliance and will provide customers of both airlines more choices and greater connectivity when traveling between the US & Ecuador and throughout each airline’s network.

Ticket sales under the codeshare agreement have now begun and codeshare travel began 9JAN.

I think this is a signal that AA, now under Chapter 11 BK protection, is looking to scale back its Latin American operations and looking to the LAN group to help pick up the slack.

I don't think so Mabel. Although, if they absolutely have to cut, Latin America would come before cuts to Asia and Europe.

This codeshare relationship will allow AAL to place its ‘AA’ flight code on LNE flights, & LNE to place its ‘XL’ flight code on AAL flights. The placement of AAL's code on LNE flights will provide AAL's customers seamless connecting service to 3 new destinations in Ecuador not currently served by AAL.

At the same time, placing LNE codes on AAL flights will offer LNE customers new destinations in the US such as ATL,BOS,DFW,CLT,DEN,FLL,IAH,HOU,MSY,PHL,PHX,SAN,SFO, & SEA.

AAL will codeshare on LNE international flights between JFK-GYE; MIA-GYE; & MIA-UIO.
