Spectacular or what !!!!
From a professional point of view I believe this was a very irresponsible and dangerous piece of flying which would never have been sanctioned by the authorities in the UK so I wonder if the authorities in Portugal knew the form that this fly past would take. There are so many things that can go wrong during a display like this and with so many people on the ground if it had gone wrong who knows what could have happened.

Hi.
Yes it was nice to see.
About being dangerous, well...if we think about many small aspects in our daily life, hazardous or even dangerous situations are almost everywhere.
One thing you all can be sure, and that is the low pass was trained before the performance, and I am quite sure that it was done several times. Note also that there were no pax on board.
I think that there is a small aspect most non Portuguese viewers and readers don't know, and that is the fact that many TAP pilots didn't start flying in regular aviation schools, but in the Portuguese Air Force where only the best of the best are accepted, so for those only familiar with civil aviation it might look irresponsible to perform such stunt number and I am sure that flight instructors will never tell them to do that, but to pilots who started on fighter jets things can be slightly different. After ending their careers on the Air Force many continue to fly in commercial aviation respecting all the International rules and legislation and certifications. I flew many times with TAP (and many times on the jumpseat) and I can tell you that TAP pilots are as good as the vast majority of pilots in commercial aviation all over the world who put safety in first place.
Note also that there is an optical illusion on the distance the wing is from the ground. As far as I know, the wing passed some 6-8 meters above the ground in a moment when the weather was fine (light wind only). The A310 has over 40m of wigspan and if you all look closer to many photos available on several websites you'll see that there is still plenty of room there.
Another thing about the distance and the optical illusion is the fact that there is a slope on the runway (I already landed there 5 times on light aircrafts and this is very easy to see). As everybody (making videos or making photos) was before the slope the optical illusion is even bigger.
Kind regards ;-)

Hi everyone!
At first glance I was pretty sure that this must be a fake but the various camera-persepectives seem to prove me wrong. I really wonder why this pilot jeopardised his license for nothing.
Do you think this guy(s) is/are still flying? Moreover do you not think that this videos will seriously harm TAP's reputation???

Hi.
Not it is not fake. It was a display at Portugal Air Show in Evora on the weekend of 14, 15 and 16th of September.
As for the aircraft CS-TEI it arrived earlier that day from Caracas in Venezuela and it departed hours later to Brazil (can't remember the destination).
The Capt is still flying, as a matter of fact he is the A310 fleet chief pilot and like I've said before the entire flight was very well trained.
As for the image of TAP...hmmm...I think that over 95% of the passengers don't choose the airline they fly on based on a airshow. It makes absolutely no sense at all to compare a normal daily commercial flight with an airshow. Like we say...work is work and cognac is cognac

I agree with captain bill, no matter what the training a pilot may have, with that little clearance, the slighest deviation from the planned performance could spell disaster.
as for the fact that the pilot could be ex-military, thats all very well, but I don't need to say that that is no fighter plane, and it is certainly not made with that type of flying in mind.
