United, Continental In Early Merger Talks

I don't think this is a good thing personally. I like both United Airlines and Continental Airlines colour schemes and all this talk of a merger and seeing one disappear if frankly quite annoying. United don't come to my local airport (Manchester) so it may make an interesting change. The only merger i would be happy with would be where both companies keep their individual brands but knowing how the world of business works i can't see this happening if these two carriers do come together as one. Quite sad really

I have to admit BA has done what they needed to do because no one in the rest of the country will pay as much to travel as BA charges. Why the U.S. carriers keep trying to cover two seperate (large markets) is beyond me. If they all selected routes that benefited them from their key hubs then they would have no problems getting out of financial difficulties. Some low yield routes run by these carriers are just too un-profitable to bother with. The problem in the U.S. for carriers is that it is huge and therefore they try to serve a whole country when maybe they should try to serve different parts of it
